As the week kicks off with one of the most exciting events in haute horology, Watches and Wonders 2026 welcomes passionate collectors and enthusiasts to the watch world mecca, Geneva, Switzerland, to get a glimpse of the newest releases from the biggest names in the industry. But even prior to exclusive unveilings and big announcements, the team at Phillips, in association with Bacs & Russo, is already making headlines in watch news, showcasing heavy hitters for The New York Watch Auction: XIV.
This year, the headline is a piece that collectors only dream about, a museum-quality pink gold Patek Philippe Reference 1518, arguably one of the most important vintage wristwatches ever made. As the world’s first serially produced perpetual calendar chronograph, the 1518 stands out as a vital piece of high-end horology, and this newly surfaced example adds to the already mythical reference.
But the depth and diversity of the lineup is what really tells the story. In addition to the 1518, Rolex makes a statement with an incredible lineup of “Paul Newman” Daytonas, including an 18k gold ref. 6239 with a near-flawless champagne dial and a beautiful steel ref. 6263 “Panda.” Then F.P. Journe, defined by a Tourbillon Souverain Anniversaire “Hong Kong” No. 1, one of just five pieces ever made, and one that rarely trades hands publicly. Add in an early Patek Philippe Reference 3940 “Doré Beyer” and a Tiffany-signed Patek with direct ties to Paul Starrett, and the sale is really covering all the bases.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Fresh off a streak of auctions in 2026, all with 100% sell-through rates, Phillips is doubling down on momentum, with New York continuing to prove itself as a global hub for serious watch collecting. With dates set at 432 Park Avenue ahead of the mid-June sale, Auction XIV is a look at where the vintage and independent watch market is headed next.
