Petrolicious Film Friday: Amalgam Collection’s Amazing Mi...

Petrolicious, the creator of quality, original films and articles for classic car enthusiasts, has released its latest video, featuring the amazing miniature world of the Amalgam Collection. Petrolicious celebrates the inventions, the personalities, and the aesthetics that ignite a collective lust for great automotive machines, and it seeks to inform, entertain, and inspire its community of aficionados and pique the interest of those who have been missing out. Today, Petrolicious takes up the story... Attention to detail threads through everything we build and everything we care about. Sometimes it is survival. Get it wrong and people do not come home. Engines, bridges, airplanes, race cars: their margin for error is measured in lives. Other times detail is not about necessity at all, but about love. A polished bolt head tucked away, a stitch sewn straight, a wooden surface sanded smooth. Small gestures that say you were there, that you cared, even if no one ever sees it. Passion is where Amalgam Collection works. Founder Sandy Copeman put it plainly: “Car design right from the beginning has majorly been about the design, the appearance, the experience of the car, and we’re capturing that in a model.” Capturing means more than shrink-wrapping a shape. “We make, immodestly, the finest model cars in the world,” Copeman says. “Many of the models that we make are bespoke for owners, and those are incredibly personal to them.” To be personal, they must be exact. A Ferrari 499P or Maserati 250F might be represented by more than 2,000 separate parts, each researched, modeled, painted, and finished until the eye stops asking questions. For modern cars, the process begins with CAD files direct from the manufacturers. “That’s a really major advantage,” Copeman explains. “We’ve got accurate, specific data for the car. We may have to choose a race, or we might have to choose a specification that we want to model for a road car.” For classics, Amalgam goes further. The team scans real cars, digs through archives, and collects period photography until they have a complete picture. From that mass of information, they create their own digital model of every component. From there, the artistry begins. Wheels are CNC-machined from aluminum. Paints are mixed to the same specifications used at the factory. Carbon fiber and wood finishes are recreated with special printing so the patterns look right at scale. Leather cannot simply be cut down, because the grain balloons out of proportion. “If you were to make a wide scale seat out of leather, it looked like it had giant elephant sized pores in the skin and the grain is just completely over scale,” Copeman says. “It looks more like a Barbie doll effect than a fine model.” Amalgam has been at it since the mid-1990s, starting with Jordan Grand Prix and Williams before striking up a lasting partnership with Ferrari in 1999. That relationship has grown to the point where, as Copeman puts it, “We now make every road car that Ferrari produces. The most powerful object that they can offer a customer other than the car itself is a really beautiful model of the car.” The company now works out of Bristol in the UK, Hungary, and China, with a staff of artisans who understand that scale does not mean shortcut. A model can take months to build, and the result is not a toy but a precise record of a machine in time. The attention to detail is what gives these models their weight. It is not about scale or novelty, but about capturing the spirit of the car so that it feels whole even when it is eight times smaller.

A bottle of Glenfiddich 16-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, inspired by Aston Martin’s new Formula 1 Team Scotch Whisky, with its cylindrical box and a glass of whisky on a white tray against a green background.

Tasted: Aston Martin’s New Formula 1 Team Scotch Whisky b...

Rather than unveiling a new ultra-exclusive model at Monterey Car Week this year, Aston Martin instead took the opportunity to announce a new spirits partnership with the Scotch distillery Glenfiddich. The initial press preview revealed a whisky almost as exclusive as Aston’s Valhalla hypercar, a 48-year-old European oak sherry cask expression limited to just 50 bottles worldwide. But alongside this collector’s edition, Glenfiddich also plans to release a more accessible—and drinkable—scotch to celebrate the official partnership with the Aston Martin F1 team, a 16-year-old single malt bedecked in the race team’s iconic dark Almond Green label. Ahead of the announcement, Aston invited me to the brand’s customer hospitality house on the Monterey Peninsula to taste Glenfiddich’s latest lineup. And where most promotional efforts of this type tend to rely on brand-name recognition rather than quality, I can confidently report that the 16-year-old F1 bottle actually stood out as my favorite bottle. Other than, of course, the capstone of a 30-year-old dram known as “Suspended time” due to not just the bottle’s presentation but also the sheer complexity of a whiskey that’s been aged for so long. Glenfiddich’s enviable reputation as one of the Scotch industry’s only family-owned distilleries goes a long way toward explaining why the F1 bottle might be a fan favorite. The company’s 12-year-old is actually the best-selling single malt on the planet, but certainly lacks some of the maturity of older bottlings aged in a mix of various casks—a process that Glenfiddich actually pioneered decades ago. Sure, finding the 12-year-old at any corner liquor store might be easy. But stepping up to just the 14-yo makes a huge difference, adding hints of spice thanks to a finishing process that relies on American oak casks. A 15-year-old Solera vat-style Scotch from Glenfiddich adds multiple different whiskies from various years, in a similar fashion to a sourdough starter—the oldest hailing from back in 1983. More accurately, this method borrowed from Spanish sherry bodegas only lets a vat reach half empty (or is it half full) before another batch of later 15-year-old new mash is mixed in. The resulting whisky remains dry and light, but with a surprising depth of character to the finish. I also sampled the Glenfiddich 18, a more refined and quintessential Speyside region age statement that rolls over the tongue as smooth as butter, as well as a 21-year-old bottle finished in Caribbean rum casks that add hints of plantain and caramel to the palate. The 23-year-old Grand Cru, meanwhile, borrows casks from the Champagne region of France, which results in a buttery smoothness almost reminiscent of a California Chardonnay. But among the lineup, I kept returning to the Aston Martin F1 bottle. Despite a relatively young age statement of just 16 years, the combination of American oak, bourbon, and wine casks produces a delicate hint of brown sugar contrasted by clear fruits and mild maple syrup texture despite the 43% ABV strength. The taste of blackcurrants then lingered on for a few minutes, which only made me a bit more—ahem—thirsty to try another pour. This new partnership for Aston leaves the Islay-based distillery Bowmore behind, which I can admit comes as something of an unfortunate announcement, given how much that partnership appeared to reach full maturity with a truly peppy cask-strength 22-year-old that I tasted just late last year. But marketing efforts for both Aston Martin, the car company, and the F1 team make sense for a team-up with the world’s largest Scotch distillery. Expect to see the new label on liquor store shelves starting in September. And at just $75 per bottle, the new 16-year-old manages to simultaneously impress with flavor, refinement, and value, a true rarity in today’s increasingly excessive Scotch industry. British Icons Unite at Monterey: Aston Martin and Glenfid...

Aston Martin and Glenfiddich have made a bold statement at the 2025 Monterey Car Week. Two of Great Britain’s most celebrated brands are joining forces in a global partnership that builds upon Glenfiddich’s work with the Aston Martin Formula One Team, which is now expanding into lifestyle and luxury experiences. At the heart of this collaboration is a rare release, Glenfiddich’s 1976 Single Malt Scotch Whisky, aged 48 years and finished in a hand-selected European oak sherry cask. Malt Master Brian Kinsman has personally curated the cask. “This exceptional cask was not selected for its vintage year alone, but for the era it represents; the transformative mid-1970s, a defining period that marked the beginning of Glenfiddich’s modern era and helped shape the whisky’s character for generations to come. The whisky matured in a refill sherry cask before being moved into a 100 litre (26.41 gallons) European oak sherry cask built by one of our coopers.” - Brian Kinsman, Malt Master at Glenfiddich. The mid-1970s, of course, marked a transformative period for both brands. Glenfiddich modernized its production and introduced the iconic stag’s head, whereas Aston Martin was redefining design and performance at the time, in the wake of Bond cars and coach-built specials.  If you’ve ever wondered what decades of craftsmanship taste like, the 1976 Single Malt offers a clear answer. Glenfiddich describes it as follows: on the nose, you’ll find red berry sweetness, soft spices, and crumbly butter pastry. The palate layers dry oak tannins, stewed fruits, and toasted wood. The finish lingers with sweet oak spice that sticks with you.  Stefano Saporetti, Aston Martin’s Director of Brand Diversification, highlighted the potential for immersive experiences, and if you follow the luxury space closely, this raises a question: how far will collaborations like this shape the way you experience premium brands?  If you’re attending Monterey this year, besides checking out the spectacular lineup of Aston Martin sports cars and supercars on display, including the new Thrillseeker Collection,  make sure to also stop by The House of Aston Martin to savor this unique collaboration. If you want a bottle, do note that the Glenfiddich 1976 will be available exclusively through The Distillers Library and The Glenfiddich Distillery, with worldwide availability limited to just 50 bottles. Carrera GT Turns 25: Porsche and Arthur Kar To Drop A Tri...

It’s been 25 years since the Porsche Carrera GT prototype first stunned the world with its carbon-clad body and V10 power. Now, in 2025, the car that once redefined the supercar formula is back in the spotlight, not on the pavement, but in fabric and thread. Porsche has once again reunited with Arthur Kar, the Paris-based creative behind L’Art de L’Automobile, to launch a limited-edition capsule collection celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Carrera GT. The drop lands in September, and if the past is any indicator, it won’t last long.  Kar’s vision for the CGT fuses motorsport purity with streetwear energy, translating the Carrera GT’s essence into garments and accessories that are a tribute to speed, design, and rebellion. But this story runs deeper than clothes, and Kar, this one’s personal. “Since it launched, the Carrera GT has always been my favorite car. It’s not just a machine, it’s a totem of innovation, design, and pure emotion.” - Arthur Kar. He’s not wrong because the Carrera GT wasn’t just another halo supercar, but a symbol of Porsche’s survival instinct. Rewind to the turn of the millennium, more specifically, the Paris Motor Show, September 28, 2000. That’s when Porsche stunned the world with a silver prototype that came together in just four months. The car on the stand? A carbon-bodied V10 concept built around a shelved Le Mans engine and racecar technology. The prototype, engineered under Horst Marchart and styled by designer Harm Lagaay, and dynamics honed by none other than two-time world rally champion and works driver, Walter Röhrl, was never meant to be a production car. But demand was immediate and overwhelming.  That urgency also came at a time when Porsche needed it most. In the early 1990s, Porsche was in trouble. Sales were down, the lineup was aging, and the company was bleeding cash, and they even began building cars for other automakers: hence the Mercedes-Benz 500E and Audi RS2 Avant. But a few key projects turned the tide for the German marque: the first-generation Boxster and the water-cooled 996-generation 911, and the Cayenne SUV.  These models helped modernize the brand and stabilize its finances, and without their success, there would have been no Carrera GT. That new momentum, paired with the unexpected popularity of the Carrera GT prototype, gave Porsche the confidence to eventually greenlight what many today consider the last analog supercar of all time, for series production. The final production version of the Carrera GT, unveiled in 2003 and built in Leipzig, was essentially a road-legal racecar. It featured a 5.7-liter V10 producing 612 horsepower, a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, inboard pushrod suspension, ceramic brakes, and a clutch that bordered on brutal.  No paddle shifters, no traction control would also earn it the reputation for being a modern-day ‘widow-maker’, a title that was famously given to the 930 Turbo. Just raw, mechanical purity complemented by a beachwood shifter for the six-speed manual gearbox, harking back to the 917 racecar. While it demanded skill, it rewarded and continues to reward drivers with raw feedback and an otherworldly howl from its high-revving V10 powerplant. All said and done, with modern-day bespoke tires that Porsche developed with Michelin last year, the CGT is safer than ever before. Arthur Kar gets that, and his connection to Porsche goes way back. Born in Lebanon and raised in Paris, Kar started as a mechanic at Sonauto Levallois, Porsche’s Paris dealership. “Arthur brings a singular creative vision to everything he touches. He understands Porsche not just as a carmaker, but as a cultural force.” Stefan Buescher, CEO of the Porsche Lifestyle Group. He later launched L’Art de L’Automobile in 2012 as a rare car dealership, then parlayed its cult following into a fashion label in 2017.  His past collaborations with Porsche, like the 968 L’Art in 2021 and the Tokyo capsule in 2023, blurred the lines between art, performance, and street style. Now, with the Carrera GT capsule, Kar is turning nostalgia into wearable art. View All Porsche Carrera GTs For Sale Source: Porsche
