Maserati Classiche Celebrates Its 100th Certificate Of Authenticity

The milestone indicates success in preserving the rich history of the manufacturer.

Maserati has one of the most storied histories in the entire automotive industry, and 2026 is an especially poignant year for the brand, as it marks 100 years since the introduction of its legendary Trident emblem, as well as the 100th anniversary of Maserati’s involvement in motorsport. As Maserati celebrates its dual milestone centenary, Maserati Classiche, the division of the brand dedicated to preserving that rich heritage, has marked the issuance of its 100th Certificate of Authenticity.

That certificate was given to a Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Convertible prototype, a stunning example of the beginning of Maserati’s grand touring convertible legacy. Established in 2021, the Maserati Classiche program, as part of many services it provides, issues Certificates of Authenticity to cars over twenty years old, as well as for special models and limited series. A committee of experts examines cars with historical documents, Maserati archives, and their technical features before issuing a certificate.

Only five examples of the Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Convertible prototype were made, and it was unveiled at the 1959 Turin Motor Show. A styling exercise for Vignale, the car wasn’t originally meant for series production, but the reception it had called for a production car to be made, and 250 units were. The formula would serve as a blueprint for decades of future Maserati convertibles, combining compelling performance with luxurious elegance and dashing style.

In addition to issuing Certificates of Authenticity, Maserati Classiche also supports restorations of classics, including the one that the 3500 GT Vignale Convertible prototype underwent between 2023 and 2026 in Modena, which is also the city in which it was built. The car was restored to the exact specifications that it had when it was first presented at the Turin Motor Show. It features a silver exterior and an interior combining ivory and red upholstery with blue carpets and gold details.

Under the hood lies a 3.5-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 235 horsepower, which is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Showcasing the incredible legacy of open-top luxury performance at its beginning, the restoration and certification of the Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Convertible prototype by Maserati Classiche is a gorgeous reminder of the legacy that continues with today’s Maserati GranCabrio lineup.
