Spy shots have always fueled the automotive world, giving enthusiasts grainy sneak peeks at what’s coming next, but when the footage comes straight from the manufacturer itself, it's like a real progress update with a behind-the-scenes look at testing, development, and production. Maserati isn’t hiding anything from its global fanbase these days, most recently, giving the world a first look at the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale prototypes during road testing.

All testing is performed on public roads near the marque’s historic Viale Ciro Menotti facility. It’s the same area where all in-house operations continue to design and engineer its lineup, making the roads surrounding Modena a natural setting and key piece of the development process. What makes the location useful is the diversity in driving conditions packed into a relatively small region.

Within a short drive, engineers and test drivers can move from crowded city streets to hilly backroads and higher-speed highway sections, helping evaluate how new Maseratis perform in everyday driving conditions for future owners. The camouflage may hide the final details, but the purpose of the testing is straightforward: gather data, improve, and continue dialing in the cars before production moves forward.
