Mercedes-Benz Reveals The First-Ever Electric G-Wagon

The SUV legend finally goes electric… officially. It’s been teased for quite some time, but throughout that period, it’s remained quite a hot-button topic: the idea of an electric version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. As one of Mercedes-Benz’s longest-standing models, and one of the most prominent icons in the SUV world, celebrated for off-road capability, luxurious appointments, and unmistakable glamour and style, the G-Class isn’t something that Mercedes-Benz changes often.  For decades, the G-Class has remained a body-on-frame SUV with incredible off-road features, a more hot-blooded AMG variant, and head-turning glitz throughout. With the introduction of the first-ever electric G-Class, the G 580 with EQ Technology as it’s called, Mercedes-Benz hopes to introduce electrification while retaining the core principles of what makes the G-Class great: luxury, off-road ability, and style. Even the G-Roar, a feature that provides an acceleration sound that mimics the roar of the V8 many G-Wagon fans are used to, aims to faithfully retain the G-Class experience Mercedes-Benz lovers know and love. The most noticeable factor is that the iconic silhouette remains largely unchanged, accommodating optimized aerodynamics but retaining the decades-long favored G-Class look. Other things that remain unchanged compared to the combustion-powered G-Class include the ladder-frame design, with the 116-kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery integrated into it for a lowered center of gravity, a solid rear axle, and (virtually) locking differentials via torque vectoring. Four individually controlled electric motors placed near each wheel drive the new electric G-Wagon (making it the first Mercedes-Benz with individual-wheel drive), combining to produce 579 horsepower and 859 lb/ft of torque. Rather than detract from the off-road capabilities of the legendary G-Class, this innovative drivetrain actually enhances them, opening the door for unprecedented ease in off-road driving. The virtually-locking differentials are operated automatically, while the motors also allow for maneuvers like the G-Turn on certain surfaces, the in-place spin that has already earned the electric Geländewagen notoriety before its official reveal. In addition to G-Turn, the arguably more functional G-Steering feature offers a shortened turning circle that uses the motors to turn the vehicle around the inside rear wheel with the touch of a button, making tricky situations a breeze. Other convenient features for traveling off the beaten path include the “Transparent Hood” camera function, as well as the “Offroad Cockpit” functionality, which makes the instrument and infotainment displays provide information readouts about the most relevant off-roading details when you need them. For those well-versed in non-tarmac driving, the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology boasts important numbers like the ability to climb up to a 100% grade on certain surfaces, 9.8 inches of ground clearance within the wheelbase, 33.5 inches of wade depth, a 32-degree approach angle, a 30.7-degree departure angle, and a 20.3-degree breakover angle, coming together to show that an electric powertrain doesn’t detract from the G-Class’s hardy reputation as an off-roader. In addition, concerns about the battery being at the bottom of the vehicle are quelled by Mercedes-Benz’s use of a torsion-resistant casing for the battery pack, using a mix of innovative materials including carbon fiber. As impressive as the new electric G-Class’s off-road ability is, the question remains as to how it performs in a category that the rest of Mercedes-Benz’s lineup is known for: luxury. For starters, Nappa leather is standard, along with 64-color ambient lighting and climate-controlled cupholders. High-tech features include Augmented Reality for Navigation, a standard Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, and more. In addition, the expanded MANUFAKTUR range offers electric G-Class customers a wide range of personalization options for the new high-tech luxury SUV, including Catalana Beige/Black two-tone leather inside, which is available in the new G-Class for the first time. For the United States, the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology is launching for the 2025 model year exclusively as an EDITION ONE variant, which features extra equipment like special blue accents, the AMG line and Night Package, and more. Pricing is yet to be announced for the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology, but with it being the very first all-electric variant of the legendary G-Wagon, one of Mercedes-Benz’s top-of-the-line models, the expectation is for it to be high. However, it costs to have access to a vehicle that combines high-tech innovation with luxury, style, off-road prowess, and decades of legacy in the way the new electric G-Class does. Mercedes-AMG Reveals New 805HP GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE

A hybrid powertrain gives the new AMG GT flagship 805 horsepower. This weekend in the bustling city of Shanghai, excitement is building for an intense race as Formula 1 visits for the 2024 Chinese Grand Prix, and as the countdown continues for the race to start, Mercedes-AMG adds to the electricity in the atmosphere with the global reveal of a new high-performance creation: the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE. Following the lead of many of the recent peak-performance AMG models, the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE uses a hybrid powertrain to increase power and performance. Specifically, that powertrain consists of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine and an electric motor on the rear axle, which combined provide the grand tourer with an immense 805 horsepower, as well as 1,047 lb/ft of torque. That results in a blisteringly quick 0-60 time of just 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 199 mph. Power is sent to all four wheels via the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ system, which along with rear-axle steering ensures excellent traction and dynamism, with the electric motor able to send power to the front wheels for added traction in the event of rear-axle slip, or provide extra boost from a standstill, contributing to the incredible 0-60 time. Carbon ceramic brakes provide racing-level stopping power, and active aerodynamics throughout optimize performance, including an active element at the front of the car in the underbody, which lowers by 1.6 inches at 50 mph, creating a Venturi effect that adds front downforce and enhances performance. In addition, the active rear spoiler features five new positions which can either add downforce or reduce drag. As with any Mercedes-AMG vehicle, style and luxury are important considerations alongside thrilling high performance, and the extended MANUFAKTUR Signature program introduces exclusive paint finishes like Desert Sand and Cirrus Silver Magno, along with interior finishes like Red/Black and Savannah Beige/Black quilted Nappa leather, with luxurious details like a hand-stitched Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, illuminated door sill panels, and MANUFAKTUR badging on the center console in chrome. Hybrid powertrains are taking the power and performance of AMG’s lineup to a new level, and after revealing the new generation of the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe, the newest flagship is the latest to be imbued with incredible hybrid power. With 805 horsepower and incredible performance-oriented technology throughout, the new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE is stylish, innovative, and ready to usher in a new electrified era for AMG. Mercedes-Maybach x David LaChapelle Collaborate On 3 New ...

Art and automotive luxury combine. Maybach is one of the most ubiquitous and celebrated names in automotive luxury, with a model lineup that celebrates elegant style, painstaking attention to detail, incredible craftsmanship and opulent luxury. One of its longtime collaborators as a brand is the equally ubiquitous photographer David LaChapelle, whose portfolio includes myriad iconic celebrity photo shoots, and an unforgettable maximalist, colorful style that he is known for championing. With a shared dedication to artistry, style, and craftsmanship, David LaChapelle and Mercedes-Maybach have reunited for the creation of three new original artworks, all unveiled at The Gallery Meravigli, during Milan Design Week at an exclusive event. There was no prescribed brief for the collection, and with creative freedom, LaChapelle decided that the triptych would be inspired by three different historical art movements: Cubism, Futurism, and Surrealism. The result was the three pieces: “Cubist Scape,” “Future Scape,” and “Surreal Scape.” Each features a Mercedes-Maybach vehicle set seamlessly in a dazzling scene, coming together to form an homage to art history, a pioneering work of art today, and a celebration of Mercedes-Maybach’s signature approach to automotive luxury. The pieces will become a part of the Mercedes-Benz Art Collection, a collection that was first established in 1977 and now has over 3,000 works by over 800 artists, and stands as one one of Europe’s most important corporate art collections. Through the collection, Mercedes-Benz nurtures the arts by preserving important works, exhibiting them to the public, as these new pieces by David LaChapelle will be worldwide in the future, and collaborating with artists across the globe. When one of the most celebrated photographers, and one of the most desirable marques in automotive luxury come together, the result is bound to be a work of art. Mercedes-Benz Unveils The All-New 2025 G-Wagon

The ultimate Mercedes-Benz icon evolves again. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the most steadfast staples in the luxury automotive world. A favorite among luxury lovers, celebs, and off-roading enthusiasts alike, it’s celebrated for its impressive capabilities, luxurious features, robust performance, and of course, its absolutely unmistakable style. However, Mercedes-Benz has revamped the G-Class yet again, with more technology and versatility than before. For the United States, two versions are available: the G 550, and the Mercedes-AMG G 63. The former is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine with 443 horsepower and 413 lb/ft of torque. Mild hybrid technology assists the system at low engine speeds with an additional 20 horsepower and 148 lb/ft of torque. In typical AMG fashion, the G 63 features a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, good for 577 horsepower and 627 lb/ft of torque, and assisted by the same mild hybrid technology as the inline-six. In the G 550, the transfer case provides a 40/60 front/rear split of all-wheel drive power, with three locking differentials and low range gear reduction for tackling especially difficult terrain. Meanwhile, the performance-focused AMG model also offers a suite of off-road capable functions, like AMG Traction PRO, which adapts to road conditions to provide maximum traction, and the AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, which can adapt to serve different situations. With a legacy that stretches all the way back to 1979, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is one of the historic luxury brand’s most important legends, and its newest iteration looks forward to continuing that incredible legacy. With the new Mercedes-Benz G 550 and Mercedes-AMG G 63 showcasing more innovation and off-road ability than ever, and arriving at U.S. dealerships in the second half of this year, Mercedes-Benz reiterates why the G-Class has its unshakeable icon status. Watch Race Service Rip Up Hollywood In Its Mercedes-AMG G...

It didn't take much convincing to unleash the Mercedes-AMG GT3 on the streets! Let's face it. As car enthusiasts with an obsession for all things automotive, we've all tried to convince ourselves, at one point or another, that a track-only, competition GT car would be appropriate to call a daily driver. And while a long list of road rules and regulations quickly put that pitch to rest, the team over at Race Service challenged that thought with their long-awaited Mercedes-AMG GT3 'Raw Spec' race car. Race Service is based in Los Angeles and known for its creative collaborations that tie together the world of media and streetwear with motorsports, as seen in past projects and clothing lines with Mercedes-Benz. Recently after taking delivery of its customized Mercedes-AMG GT3, Race Service planned a quick route through Hollywood to capture the race car in an environment where you wouldn't traditionally find one. A behind-the-scenes documentary of the photoshoot gives insight into the milestones achieved by Race Service, going full circle since its first project featuring the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. In an almost effortless fashion, the AMG GT3 set the perfect scene as it stuck out like a sore thumb in everyday traffic while people grabbed cell phone shots from all angles. The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity came as part of the car's official debut alongside a must-have apparel collection inspired by the authentic side of motorsports, giving race fans a reason to re-style their wardrobe. Ending what seemed to be a perfect day with a proper studio photoshoot at the exact location of its first Mercedes collab, Race Service teased that the AMG GT3 would be launched to the world above the Hollywood Hotel after being trailed in by its Mercedes-Benz Unimog.
