In the 2000s, Maybach was its own brand that made ultra-luxurious cars that competed with brands like Rolls-Royce. It manufactured two luxury sedan models, the 57 and the 62, as well as the one-off Maybach Exelero. However, Mercedes-Maybach was a revival of the nameplate as a Mercedes-Benz sub-brand, like Mercedes-AMG. Does Maybach still use V12 engines? Yes. The latest Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is still available with a V12 engine, specifically the Mercedes-Maybach S 680. In the past, Maybach models and Mercedes-Maybach models came with a V12 under the hood, but many of today’s models, like the SL 680, the GLS 600, and the S 580 all have V8 engines instead. The Mercedes-Maybach EQS uses an all-electric powertrain, and the Mercedes-Maybach VLS is likely to be all-electric, as well.
