This year’s Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge has an all-star cast of finalists.
Each year, the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge brings together Porsche dealerships from across the country, tasking them with the daunting effort of reviving a classic Porsche that is in need of some TLC. Since its introduction, the Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge has evolved to include various categories in this year’s competition: Restoration, Preservation, Individualization, and also a People’s Choice Award.
For the fifth annual Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge, Porsche has now announced the last round of finalists for the national competition, after announcing the Area West Winners during Monterey Car Week. Carmel, Indiana is where judging took place for the Area South-Central, while New York City is where cars were judged for the Area East. The National Finals are set to take place at Luftgekühlt 11, on October 4 in Durham, North Carolina.
Out of a new record of 73 vehicles entered in the competition this year, the newly announced finalists represent some of the most unique, excellent, and captivating classic Porsches to enter the competition yet. For Area South Central, Porsche North Houston won in the Restoration category with its Speed Yellow 2004 911 GT3, while a 2002 Porsche Boxster S won in the Preservation category from Porsche Louisville, and Harper Porsche’s 1992 964 911 RS won in the Individualization category.
The People’s Choice Award was won by a very special historic car, a Porsche 959 that was purchased by General Motors and kept untitled as a benchmark vehicle to help refine the performance capabilities of the contemporary Corvette ZR1. The car was carefully restored by Hendrick Porsche to showcase its incredible legacy.
The Restoration category for Area East was won by Porsche Edison, who submitted a 1996 Porsche 911 C2 Cabriolet, while the Preservation category saw Porsche Beachwood’s 1995 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 winning, and Porsche Clifton Park won the Individualization category with its 1988 911 Carrera Coupe.
Porsche Delaware won the People’s Choice award, specifially with a 1986 Porsche 928 S that was restored with a custom interior and gullwing doors. With an incredible variety of cars entering and winning in this year’s competition, the fifth annual Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge is more exciting than it’s ever been, with the finale at Luftgekühlt on the horizon.
