Porsche Names A New PTS Color After A Customer

What’s in a name? For this new Porsche color, a lot. Porsche’s Paint To Sample program has been one of the most celebrated aspects of the well-loved brand for enthusiasts all over the world, with the configuration options for their dream Porsche exponentially expanding to include an immense library of historical Porsche colors, from tried-and-true classic shades to wild hues that captured hearts over the years. However, a new addition to the Porsche Paint To Sample lexicon marks a first for Porsche, and it’s the creation of Essmanngreen, a shade named after Michael Essmann, a long-time Porsche client who has painted his cars in that shade, the signature color of his family business. MUST READ: How To Buy A Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Technically, Essmanngreen has been a color painted on Porsches for decades, because the concept of Porsche’s Paint to Sample program has been around for a long time, albeit under a different name. When, in the 1990s, Essmangreen was first ordered on a Porsche, it was through the brand’s Custom Color program. Paint to Sample, and Custom Color before it, allowed Porsche customers to not only access Porsche’s ever-growing library of colors, but also create a new color through the use of a sample that the customer provides. Essmann did this, and for the painting of his 992 Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, a new color recipe was developed and named after its client. This marks the first time a custom color has been added to the Porsche Paint To Sample library for the 911, Taycan, and 718 models, and it’s the perfect way to celebrate an important and storied Porsche client. Porsche Restores The Ionic Rothmans 959 Paris-Dakar Rally...

Continuing its legacy as one of Porsche's most famous examples, the 959 undergoes a full restoration to be driven once again. For all automotive manufacturers, the importance of preserving pioneering models proves to be a focus for carrying on the legacy of icons. For Porsche, the famous 959 continues to hold significance not only as an early supercar best described as “ahead of its time” but also one that played a diverse role in its history of motorsports. While most of us recall the days when the Porsche 959 used its 2.8L Twin-Turbocharged Flat-Six to reach 200mph for the first time, it's most well-known for its participation as a competitor during the grueling Paris-Dakar Rally in 1986. With three of its off-road Porsche 959s in its current museum collection, Porsche is proud to document the recommissioning of the second-place winning chassis. MUST-READ: Porsche Classic Invites Former F1 Driver Nick Heidfeld And His Porsche 959 S To Its Facility Since its 8,700-mile venture through the deserts and savannahs of Africa, the 1986 Porsche 959 received a top to bottom restoration in collaboration with Porsche Heritage, Porsche Museum, and the team at Porsche Classic. During the 959’s disassembly, the team discovered sand and dirt from the African desert. All damaged components were either restored or replaced to working condition for the rally-style Porsche to be driven once again. As for the winning Rothman’s Porsche 959 driven by René Metge and Dominique Lemoyne, it remains untouched in the same condition as it crossed the finished line more than 37 years ago. The multi-part documentary "959 Paris-Dakar" on the Porsche YouTube channel offers exciting insights into the recommissioning process. Porsche Unveils Vision 357 Concept As A Tribute To The 35...

To celebrate the upcoming 75th anniversary of its first road car, Porsche's design team unveiled the Vision 357 concept. Its primary source of inspiration is a Porsche 356 Roadster, which received its general operating permit on June 8th, 1948, making it the first road car to wear the brand's crest officially. Thus, the Vision 357 pays tribute to the car that kicked off the brand and looks to the future and how its design might evolve over the following decades. The base for this concept is fittingly a 718 Cayman GT4 RS. While the Vision 357's sleek, curvy lines and lack of immediately visible air intakes may allude to a set of batteries powering it, it counts on the aforementioned GT4 RS' 493 hp flat-six. However, the concept theorizes that e-fuels could power such an engine in the future, a nod to the carbon-neutral synthetic fuel Porsche has been working on in collaboration with the Chilean electro-fuel developer HIF Global. Aside from theorizing a carbon-neutral sports car, the Vision 357 also showcases the kind of car Porsche could build if it didn't need to abide by current regulations. Thus we get a curvaceous coupe free of traditional headlights, taillights, and side-view mirrors. Quick-release latches fasten its front compartment, which is one enormous piece that blends its hood and fenders. It cuts off sharply behind the front wheels to allow air to flow uninterrupted. Drawing inspiration from the Mission R concept, the Vision 357 features natural fiber-reinforced plastic side sills. In keeping with the carbon-neutral theme set forth by its fuel, these aero elements feature sustainable materials, which according to Porsche, are made up of flax fibers from the agricultural sector. A sizable side air intake sits above them and feeds the theorized internal combustion powertrain. Its rear fenders also feature the cut-off styling behind the wheels, continuing airflow improvements. The Vision 357's rear is perhaps the most 356-inspired section of this concept's styling, as it features the now-iconic sloping roofline, which meets massively flared arches. To tie it all together, Porsche added a grille pattern just above the rear diffuser and twin exhaust pipes as a nod to the brand's first model. Large graphics on the doors and rear arches draw attention to the 356's upcoming 75th anniversary while contrasting nicely against the concepts Ice Grey Metallic and Grivola Grey Metallic paintwork. According to Porsche, these were popular colors during the 1950s. The Vision 357 rides on 20-in magnesium wheels with carbon fiber hubcaps. While these pay homage to the 356 A and 356 B wheels, their aerodynamic disk also shrinks them visually, tying their look closer to the original. As a package, it's a stunning concept with styling motifs we can only hope will trickle down to the brand's production cars. The German carmaker plans to formally unveil the concept this week during Volkswagen Group's "Drive" forum in Berlin as part of the "75 Years of Porsche sports cars" exhibition. It'll be open to the public from January 27th, 2023. View All Porsches For Sale

While the Porsche brand has always participated in competitive motorsports, its legendary Volkswagen race service vans seem to carry the same significance and rarity as some of the most winning Porsche race cars. Porsche Classic Introduces New Modern Infotainment System...

Porsche solves one of the biggest drawbacks to owning one of its classics. It’s hard not to love Porsche. With its long history of excellent cars that boast luxury, performance, and timeless design, there’s a reason to love just about every car the brand has ever made, which is why Porsche Classic is dedicated to making it as easy, enjoyable, and practical as possible to own a past Porsche, and with the announcement of new Porsche Classic Communication Management devices, one of the biggest drawbacks of owning a classic is able to be easily and seamlessly solved. MUST READ: Learn Your Classic Porsche’s Origin Story With modern infotainment systems and especially the advents of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, current vehicles are able to seamlessly integrate with our everyday technology and make driving easier. While many older cars lack these modern features in their systems, retrofitting an aftermarket modern system can be difficult, tedious, and disrupt the original look of the vehicle. Porsche Classic Communication Management devices solve this problem by offering a new genuine Porsche head unit that blends seamlessly into the original dashboard for an expanding range of models, like the early Boxster, first-generation Cayenne, and 997-generation 911. These new systems, the PPCM and PCCM Plus, offer modern infotainment that integrates seamlessly with existing speakers, antennas, et cetera, and, in the case of the PCCM Plus, is even compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Porsche dealers sell the PCCM Plus system for $1475.99. Porsche recommends installation at a Porsche Classic Partner or qualified Porsche dealer. For many classic car owners, the sacrifice of inconvenience is made to experience a timelessly enjoyable car, but with Porsche Classic, it gets even better, because that inconvenience is gone.
