Porsche and holoride Bring VR Gaming To Backseat Entertai...

It seems the days of peering into minuscule ceiling-mounted DVD player screens are long gone. Backseat entertainment is one of the most important challenges to overcome when taking a family on a long drive. From figuring out the audio situation to trying to get the best seat in the car so as to not crane your neck trying to squint at a ceiling-mounted screen, satisfying and comfortable backseat entertainment has been a tall order. However, holoride and Porsche are introducing something at the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles that may completely change the way things work. MUST READ: What are the best luxury cars you can buy? FIND OUT Using virtual reality, holoride and Porsche plan to blend the motion of the car and the backseat entertainment experience into one. Backseat passengers of a Porsche Cayenne are given VR headsets, which they use to play a new, original game called Cosmic Chase, in which the car turns into a spaceship, and passengers fight off an alien. The seamless integration of the experience comes in the fact that the VR experience matches the movement of the car, which not only makes the experience more engaging but also drastically reduces any risk of motion sickness by synchronizing what is seen with what is being felt. Currently, the experience is available at Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles, but as the technology continues to develop, Porsche and holoride plan to roll this out to other Porsche Experience Centers and eventually worldwide. Porsche 911 991 GT3 vs. 992 GT3: Which One Is Better?

The newest Porsche 911 GT3 does a whole lot more than just look different than its older counterpart. It goes without saying that the new Porsche 911 GT3 looks much different than its predecessor, at least in terms of Porsche 911s, but there’s much more that’s different than just the looks between these two cars. When you’re discussing the Porsche 911 992 GT3 vs. 991 GT3, you’re talking about two incredible performance cars that represent the absolute pinnacle of what Porsche is capable of. While the Porsche 991 GT3 was and is an incredibly performing car, Porsche took every opportunity it could to make improvements and optimize the 2022 Porsche 911 GT3. Here, we’ve broken down the differences between the two cars to show just how much the Porsche 922 GT3 has changed. Image Source: Porsche Engine When comparing the 992 vs. 991 GT3, it’s important to note that the 992 GT3 engine boasts an increase of 9 horsepower compared to its 991 counterpart. The 493 horsepower that the 991 GT3 produced is an incredibly impressive figure, but the 992 GT3 squeezes all the power that it possibly can out of the engine, producing a massive 502 horsepower. Both cars are powered by a 4.0-liter, naturally aspirated flat-6 engine, however, the new 911 GT3 engine is related more closely to the 911 GT3 Cup. One interesting change is that the new 911 GT3 lacks access to the engine bay. When you pull the lever to release what you think is the engine access, all you get is access to add fluids. This is because the engine has been situated so low and deep within the car that even with engine bay access, you would not be able to reach anything. To some, this might be a disadvantage of the new 911 GT3. Image Source: Porsche Wheels, Tires, and Brakes While the body shapes of the 991 and 992 Porsche 911 GT3 may look similar, one of the important distinctions to make between the two is the fact that the 992 GT3 has a much wider body. This change allowed Porsche to make some important improvements to the wheels, tires, and brakes for better track performance. To start, the 992 GT3 is the first to feature staggered wheel sizes. You will notice that while the front wheels of the car are 20 inches, the rear wheels are 21 inches, which means greater road contact for the rear wheels, which are the drive wheels, and improved acceleration. The tires play an even more important role, as the wider body meant that Porsche could fit Michelin PilotSport Cup 2 R tires on the new GT3, which are motorsport tires on a road-legal car. Having these larger wheels and tires opens the door for larger brakes, as well. The new GT3 gets incredible 16-inch brake discs in the front, with 6 pistons, while the back gets 15-inch discs with 4 pistons. Because of the 992 GT3’s wider body compared to the 991, the 991 was, unfortunately, unable to get any of these bonuses. Image Source: Porsche Suspension The suspension also provides advantages for the 992 GT3 that enable it to be faster, as the suspension in the 992 GT3 features, for the first time, a double-wishbone setup at the front, multi-link rear axle, and adjustability for racing. The rear-wheel steering for stability at high speeds and tighter cornering at lower speeds is continued from the 991 and improved upon, by using a suspension adapted for the road for the 992 GT3 from the 911 RSR and 911 GT3 Cup cars, resulting in a car that easily dominates the track and the road. Image Source: Porsche Interior With a new 911 comes a new interior, and it signifies one of the biggest changes that occurred between the 991 GT3 and the 992 GT3. Unlike the 991 GT3, the 992 GT3 debuted with both a manual transmission and a PDK transmission available. Until the 991.2, only the PDK was available for the 991 GT3. However, if you do get the PDK transmission in the 992, you won’t miss out on the sporty feel of the manual, as the gear lever is adapted from the manual and has the same exact look and feel, except for the fact that it, of course, controls an automatic transmission. An interesting feature of the 992 GT3 is that it introduces a “Track Screen” to the instrument panel. When the Track driving mode is selected, extraneous information on the instrument panel screens literally disappears, and what you’re left with is only information that is necessary for racing, like temperatures, the tachometer, and the speedometer. While both cars have incredible interiors, the performance dedication goes the extra mile in the 992, with thinner carpet in the back compartment, and more modern equipment courtesy of a more modern 911. Image Source: Porsche Performance What all these improvements, and more culminate in, is a faster, and in many ways, better Porsche 911 GT3 between the 991 and 992 generations. The aggressive aero kit on the 911 GT3 introduced the largest diffuser yet on the 911 GT3 and optimized airflow throughout the car. One easy detail to notice about the new GT3 is the unusual rear spoiler on the car. Porsche calls this the “Swan Neck Wing," and by mounting the spoiler from the top rather than the bottom, the surface area on the bottom of the spoiler can be maximized, helping generate more downforce. As a matter of fact, compared to its predecessor, the Porsche 911 GT3 is able to achieve as much as 150% more downforce, which translates to better handling, wherever you drive the GT3. The spoiler is adjustable and allows the driver to tune it for road or track use. However, the potential disadvantages of the aero kit are also something that Porsche has considered. Available for the new Porsche 911 GT3 is a front axle lift system that lifts the car when it needs to clear steep driveways or other bumps, which is also linked to the GPS system so that the car remembers to do it when it comes to a familiar obstacle. Porsche has gone to the ends of the earth for weight savings on the new GT3, from a carbon-fiber roof and hood to lightweight glass. Because of this, despite being a larger and more powerful car, the new 992 Porsche 911 GT3 manages to weigh a similar amount to the 991 GT3 while being a larger, more powerful car. The on-track performance is where this all truly shines, as just when Porsche fans thought it couldn’t get any better than it was, the 991 GT3 was eclipsed by the 992 GT3 in the name of 17 seconds on the Nürburgring, an incredible amount, especially considering the fact that it is a new generation of an existing car compared to its predecessor. And not only did it do that, but it also eclipsed 7 minutes. The Porsche 991 GT3 and the Porsche 992 GT3 are both incredible cars, but the new generation shows remarkable improvement. 992 Porsche 911 GT3 Specs Horsepower: 502 hp Torque: 346 lb-ft 0-60 mph: 3.2 s 1/4 mile: 10.9 @ 129 mph Weight: 3,126 lbs Nürburgring Lap Time: 6:59.9 991 Porsche 911 GT3 Specs Horsepower: 493 hp Torque: 339 lb/ft 0-60 mph: 3.8 s 1/4 mile: 11.7 @ 126 mph Weight: 3,115 lbs Nürburgring Lap Time: 7:12.7 All 911 GT3s For Sale Source: Porsche

Porsche 911 Turbo S vs. Taycan Turbo On Track

Heavy hitters face-off at the Porsche Experience Center. Porsche wants to get people driving. Whether you’re a returning customer or just an automotive enthusiast, the German carmaker now has more ways than ever to get you behind the wheel. Previously, this required dropping a large sum of cash for one of the brand’s seemingly infinite flavors of 911. Now there’s an opportunity to drive a Porsche without buying a car at all. The kind folks at Porsche recently invited me to their Los Angeles Porsche Experience Center to try out one of their various programs. It pits the latest 911 Turbo S against the Taycan Turbo across multiple exercises and even a high-speed road course. With expert instructors, some of which are actual racing drivers, guiding the way, I had a whole afternoon of putting my skills to the test while learning some new tricks along the way. Taycan Turbo Once it was time to begin my drive, my instructor waited at a predetermined staging area where he asked me various questions about my driving history and skill level. After a quick chat about how comfortable I felt driving quickly, we made our way out to one of the dozens of Taycan Turbo’s parked at charging stations near the track. Before beginning the drive, we went over proper seating positions and how to get comfortable in the car.  The first stage was a small autocross course where I was able to test out the Taycan Turbo’s launch control and low-speed cornering abilities. As I ran the course multiple times, my instructor allowed me to pick up the pace progressively. This exercise emphasizes nailing the braking zone without triggering ABS, keeping the car perfectly under control.  Next up, we made our way to the skidpad, my favorite. I had never drifted a Taycan Turbo before, and the wet surface made it quite simple. My instructor slid the car multiple times to show me the amount of throttle and steering input needed to catch and maintain a smooth slide. Once it was my turn to get in the hot seat, I had to forget a lot of what I knew about sliding a car. The Taycan behaves so differently with power going instantly to all wheels that it needs little steering input. The entire slide is controlled with your right foot. While I never managed to match my instructor’s silky smooth slides, I made decent progress before heading on to the next exercise.  Up until this point, many of the exercises had been about handling and car control, which could come in handy in the real world but are used mainly on a track. However, the following exercise had a direct real-world application. It simulates a hydroplaning incident with a slick surface covered in running water. However, a large metal plate on the floor swings the rear wheels left or right without warning to unsettle the car, sending the Taycan Turbo and its 5,100-lb curb weight sideways through the course. The goal was simple: catch the slide and keep the vehicle going straight.  During my first run in the Taycan Turbo, my instructor kept traction and stability control, making it easier to catch the slide. With an entry speed of around 20 mph, the exercise simulates a loss of control at 70 mph. However, thanks to some quick hand movement, I could catch the slide repeatedly. With stability control off and a higher entry speed, I managed to do a complete 360-degree spin in the large EV. Once I had finished spinning in circles, my instructor suggested we hit the high-speed circuit. I sat in the passenger seat the first time around as my instructor coached me through the various corners citing proper entry speed and braking points. Up until this point, I had driven both the normal Taycan and the Taycan Cross Turismo a bunch on public roads, but never on a track. After a quick lesson, I got back in the driver’s seat with my instructor guiding me while riding shotgun. Like with the autocross course, each lap saw us picking up the pace progressively until I felt we got moving. One of the best parts of the program was how well it adapted to your driving level, only giving you enough pace to push yourself without getting dangerous.  911 Turbo S After many hot laps in the Taycan Turbo, it was time to switch back to internal combustion with the 911 Turbo S. I had very high hopes for this car, especially after driving it in Techart GT Street R form a few months ago. Like with the Taycan Turbo, we ran through multiple exercises, the first of which was the hydroplaning course.  Like the Taycan Turbo, the 911 Turbo S sends power to all four wheels. However, its weight distribution and center of gravity are different, with the 911 having the weight of its engine behind the rear axle. I thought this would make it more difficult to control on the slick surface, but I couldn’t be more wrong. Even with stability control completely disengaged, the Turbo S was easy to correct from a slide, even at higher speeds. Unlike the Taycan, I never managed to lose the Turbo S’ tail fully. While we skipped the skidpad, we went straight into the high-speed circuit. However, this time my instructor wasn’t with me in the car. Instead, he jumped into the Taycan Turbo to do some hot laps in a lead/follow configuration. As with everything else we worked on, our overall speed increased progressively. However, since I had learned the course by this point, we could increase the pace quite quickly.  Jumping from a Taycan Turbo to a 911 Turbo S reveals just how much I missed the sound of an engine behind me. While we weren’t going drastically faster, the 911’s induction and turbo noise really made the experience. However, I was simultaneously impressed with the Taycan Turbo ahead of me. Regardless of how hard I pushed, my instructor and the large EV kept getting away from me. However, after many hot laps and a cool-down run around the track, it was time to hand over the keys and end the day. Pricing My entire time at the Porsche Experience center lasted around two hours, with one and a half of those spent driving on track and through the various exercises. The base price for that experience was $855, excluding taxes. However, plenty of other experiences are available, such as 911 Turbo vs. 911 GT3 for $1,175 or 911 GT3 vs. Cayman GT4 for $1,250.  Final Thoughts One of the things I loved most about this program was how open it is to everyone, regardless of skill level. It takes very high-performance vehicles and exposes you to them in a safe and controlled environment where you can test their full capabilities with professional instruction. Additionally, the experience center offers much more than just these drives. If you buy a brand-new Porsche, regardless of price, you can take delivery of it at the center and drive an equivalent car on the track. This way, you get to learn the limitations of your car before ever hitting the road.  While I wished I had more time with the cars, I felt like I got tremendous value out of the experience. You get to drive the vehicles with a professional instructor, and you also get multiple courses designed to test your driving skills, all bundled into one afternoon. If it were my money, I’d do it again in a heartbeat.  All 911 Turbo S For Sale All Taycan Turbos For Sale

Porsche’s Unseen exhibition at SXSW gave Porsche fans and SXSW attendees a deep look at Porsche’s design processes, at the concepts that informed today’s and tomorrow’s Porsches, and at the inspirations and motivations behind Porsche design. The exhibition also served as a space in which inspiration, creative thinking, and creative dialogue could blossom, and with artist Sean Wotherspoon there, that’s exactly what happened. Porsche Unveils 911 Classic Club Coupe for the Porsche Cl...

The 996 generation 911 gets a restoration overhaul from Porsche. The classic styling of the Porsche 911 will forever live on as one of the most iconic sports cars in the automotive world, with a timeline of generations that embody their own characteristics and performance attributes. Although the German sports car manufacturer always looks to push the boundaries of modern design, technology, and performance, it also showcases its past with reimagined examples based on models from previous generations. Porsche is proud to highlight its creative talents with the new one-of-a-kind 911 Classic Club Coupe for the Porsche Club of America. The idea to transform an everyday 996 Porsche 911 Carrera into a rolling time capsule began at the hands of the Porsche Club of America and Head of Individualization and Classic at Porsche Alexander Fabig. The base vehicle is a neglected black 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera that was in poor condition after spending most of its life at a dealership in Columbia, Virginia, where PCA executive director Vu Nguyen found it. After its full nut and bolt restoration, the Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe now presents itself in a Sport Grey Metallic finish. The exterior also features twin race strips painstakingly painted in blue and light sport grey. The all-grey paint scheme is inspired by the Sport Grey Metallic finish of the 911 Sport Classic (Type 997). The Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe highlights updated exterior components from other 911 generations, like the rear fixed ducktail spoiler from the 1972 911 RS 2.7 or 18-inch forged wheels that replicate the legendary Fuchs rims. The 911 has also been upgraded to a second-generation 911 GT3 including the 3.6-liter engine that generates 375-horsepower. The chassis and brakes also come from the GT3 of that generation. The sport-focused theme exterior makes its way into the interior, highlighting Porsche’s modern take on its classic Pepita houndstooth woven leather design. The interior layout features a set of sport-style seats that include embroidered ‘911 Classic Club Coupe’ blue logos in the headrest, which complement the matching door cards and trim accents. Along with a newly remodeled interior, the configuration features updated period-correct technology and amenity options that help keep the 996 up to date. Completing the bespoke build and commemorating the group efforts achieved by the passionate team at Porsche, the all-new Porsche 911 Classic Club Coupe includes a “911 Classic Club Coupe No. 001/001” dashboard badge. The new restoration from Porsche hopefully opens the door to upcoming special projects and builds. Porsche Sets A New Goal For An 80% All-Electric Lineup By...

Porsche’s ambitious new goals include public trading and a comprehensive all-electric lineup. With over 300,000 vehicles delivered in 2021, Porsche had a year full of success and validation in the direction in which the brand is currently going. Its recent success has even gotten Porsche to consider trading publicly, allowing public investment to fuel quicker and larger developments. One of the most important highlights to come out of that announcement was the fact that sales of the Taycan more than doubled, soaring to 41,296 global deliveries. Despite the 911 setting a new record high for sales in 2021, the Taycan still managed to outperform it, which leaves no doubt in Porsche’s mind that the enthusiasm for electric cars is very real. MUST READ: Sean Wotherspoon x Porsche Unveil The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo Art Car As a matter of fact, 40% of Porsche’s deliveries in Europe were of vehicles that had some sort of electric component, like hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles, and Porsche has been developing an all-electric version of the Porsche Macan SUV, set to launch in 2023. Porsche has also announced that, by “the middle of the decade,” an all-electric version of the Porsche 718 Boxster and Porsche 718 Cayman sports cars will be released. Looking even further, Porsche has announced that by 2030, 80% or more of new Porsches should be all-electric. To help this goal along, Porsche is working on creating its own charging infrastructure, as well as battery systems, which are being developed in collaboration with Cellforce Group. Porsche’s current performance might be phenomenal itself, but its goals for the future are even more so. All Porsches For Sale Source: Porsche
