HYT Soonow Drop One Watch Announced

HYT Watches has just released the new Soonow Drop One watch, a vibrant variant of their new Soonow model. If you're looking for a wristwatch that will surely stand out, the Soonow Drop One is a perfect match. Although it's primarily blue, there are hints of orange and green found in the finer details of the watch. The more you look at it, the more you notice. To create the unique way that the Soonow Drop One tells time, HYT utilizes their exclusive mechanical movement. Two contrasting layers are pushed through the skull-shaped capillary as time passes. What Exactly is a Sports Watch?

By Roberta Naas: If you Google it, the term “sports watch” has a lot of different definitions. Not all of them are correct. In fact, one definition says that a sports watch must combine water resistance with a stopwatch and an alarm. Another definition says it must be a tactical watch with LED lighting. The list goes on and on – with most definitions being only partially accurate. The truth is that what defines a sports watch is a host of factors. Among them: its function-ability for the specified use. Sports watches should be water-resistant (to varying degrees based on the end use). They should be made of durable material such as titanium, carbon or steel that can take a bit of a beating without being damaged. Similarly, their crystals should be made of an equally as shock-resistant material. Sports watches should be highly legible. Let’s face it, if you’re climbing a mountain or flying a plane at night, you want to be able to glance at that watch and see the time instantly. Typically, a sports watch will have luminous hands and markers for easy readability, and often they will be clean in design. Additionally, a sports watch should have functions built into it that are useful for the activity. A stopwatch – or chronograph – is great for a runner or a racer (as is having a tachymeter scale for measuring speeds or distances), but may be less important for a diver. Divers might want rotating, ratcheted bezels for measuring dive and resurfacing times. If you’re into hiking, camping and climbing, you may prefer a watch that offers altimeters, compass points and other information. Other sport-related functions include alarms, tide indications, regatta functions and more. For those who are into truly rugged sports, ones that amass G-forces and shocks, having a mechanical movement with added shock resistance is critical. Many fine sports watches are built with an Incabloc (or similar) shock-absorption system that includes a spring-loaded mounting system to support the bearings of the balance wheel, protecting the balance wheel pivots and giving it a little latitude either vertically or horizontally when it is jarred. Some haute horology brands are even turning to implementing their own systems using pulleys and other shock-resistant methods. Lastly, we have to admit that looks also play a role in defining a sports watch. Rarely will you find an ultra-thin complicated watch doubling as a sports watch. Generally, sports timepieces have a certain look to them—often one that correlates to its use. Many sports watches inspired by the world of automobile racing, for instance, will have bright colored dials or bold-hued accents. Typically, though, the looks are offered as backup to all of the afore-mentioned sports watch defining criteria. This article was featured in the October 2019 issue of duPont REGISTRY. As for the specifics, the case is 43mm in diameter and 15mm in height. The Caliber Singer Reimagined 6361 was picked for the movement and for great reason. Pharrell Williams x Richard Mille Watch is Out of This World

Pharrell Williams and Richard Mille have teamed up to create the new RM 52-05 Tourbillon Pharrell Williams. It doesn't take more than a glance at the watch to know that space was the inspiration behind it. Its face shows an astronaut looking to Earth from Mars, a visual that's only possible through artistic representations for the time being. For the mechanics of the watch, it features the manual-winding tourbillon movement from the RM52-05 calibre. You can get a great glimpse of the movement and baseplate by turning the watch over. For the baseplate, Richard Mille went with Grade 5 titanium, a material frequently used in the aerospace and aeronautics industries. Blue aventurine glass is also visible through the back of the watch, which resembles outer space. You can learn more about this watch by visiting RichardMille.com. New HYT H5 Model Announced

Press Release - Confident. Dynamic. Revealing. Erosion is never a snapshot; it’s evolution’s faithful storyteller. HYT’s unerring commitment to making sense of time follows exactly the same pattern. Just as erosion has gradually given our earth the mountain peaks, valleys and coastlines we treasure, the H5 timepiece mindfully shapes our perception of time. By showcasing time’s flow, it helps us to value what was, what is and what may be. Layer by layer, element by element, the essence and relevance of time are revealed. Because time and innovation are always on the move. discover the hyt h5 collection Polarization is the new collaboration The brand new proprietary 501 caliber is the epitome of opposites attracting to generate seamless harmony. Three years of development, spent largely outside the horological comfort zone, have led to a single mechanism that harnesses the potentially paradoxical power of mechanical and fluid technology. Generous dimensions and transparency prove that the result is as beautiful as it is effective. HYT loves to visualize time moving forward; the H5’s ground-breaking movement is an esthetic and technical leap in the very same direction. A hand-winding mechanism sets a consistent pace and releases precisely the right amount of energy for two contrasting immiscible liquids to flow inside the capillary tube to represent the recent past and the near future. Visible through the sapphire case back, an intricately shaped cam offers thirteen different possibilities to adjust and index the hour and minute indications, ensuring they operate as one. An over-sized, curved lever connects the movement’s collaborating elements. This orchestrates a complex chain reaction, whereby the caliber pushes against a regulating bellow with walls four times thinner than a human hair to launch time’s next twelve-hour journey. HYT is an established master at enabling art and science to share the same space. Revealing the naked truth In the age of impatient immediacy, time’s value risks dilution. The HYT H5 is dedicated to measuring time in a way that draws attention to both its intrinsic passage and precious essence. An architectural approach, inspired by erosion, reveals the layers that create the whole in all its purity. A substance that erodes reveals. If this doesn’t happen, the story isn’t told. Three-dimensionality and transparency invite viewing from all angles – by a generation obsessed with artificial intelligence and new virtual territories. A domed sapphire glass is ingeniously curved around a bold stainless steel case to simultaneously present and protect. Stratified metal components, stepping and sinuous lines support the design’s strong storyline. The innovative neoralite external flange, with its cut-out numerals further enhance the H5’s fascination with perspective. The striking vertical digits appear to float around the watch during the day and start to glow as darkness falls. Created from one single piece of luminescent, Super-LumiNova®-filled, translucent material, this component’s complex production process involves 3D printing, molding, injection and subtle grinding. Like natural erosion, personal evolution continues around the clock, time after time. discover the hyt h5 collection

How to Build a Watch Wardrobe

By Roberta Naas If you’ve been thinking about starting a watch collection, there is no time like the present. Watches can be worn on the wrist every day and are highly noticeable. Additionally, some watches not only hold their value, but also increase in value over the years. Whether you are considering building a watch wardrobe purely for the pleasure of it, or for investment purposes, we bring you a few important questions you should be asking yourself, and offer some helpful hints on getting started. I want to preface this article, though, with what may well be the most important ethos of watch collecting: Buy what you truly like; trust your own personal style and taste. To me, collecting is not about investing in the future, but rather it is about enjoying the watches of today. Of course, when you see watches with provenance such as the Rolex watches owned by Paul Newman or Marlon Brando selling at auction with numbers well into the millions, it is difficult not to think about that investment angle. But those cases are few and far between, and if you can’t afford to buy one of those legendary watches at auction, you should stick to buying what you love and building a highly wearable – and enviable – wardrobe. Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph Questions to Ask Yourself Before you go out and start buying watches, you need to consider a few things. What are your likes and dislikes when it comes to lifestyle and general style? If you are a car lover, you may want to look at watches that have an alignment with the auto-racing world. There are many watch brands that partner with races, racecar drivers and car brands. You could create a very highly focused watch wardrobe of timepieces that relate to the automobile world – giving you a new story to tell with every watch. Maybe your love is aviation, or diving. There are a host of brands that specialize in these areas, as well, and you can build an entire series of collectible watches around that passion. Seiko's dive watches are one of the first options that people in this activity usually consider. As reported by watch collector James Hampton-Smith, their watches are well-known for being available in a wide range of prices to suit everyone’s preferences - not just the luxurious expensive ones. Again, with each watch you wear, you have a story about its relationship to the deep blue sea or the bright blue skies. Some people have a passion for a special genre. Maybe you love military-inspired watches, or timepieces inspired by a certain era. Some people build entire wardrobes around themes such as this. Others go deep into buying a specific brand – often purchasing half a dozen different watches made by a particular brand. Yet others are fixated on a color. I know one watch collector who buys only watches with blue dials. He has amassed an incredible collection. Things to Consider Rolex Cosmograph Daytona It is important to buy quality while still paying attention to your budget. There are great watches that can be found for a few thousand dollars to under $10,000. Having a few quality watches is better than having a bigger number of mediocre watches. There is no set number of watches that constitute a collection. Most experts say that having at least five is a good starting number. This should include at least one or more daily drivers, a sporty timepiece or two, and a special piece. Consider having a versatile metal bracelet watch in the line up, or even an interchangeable bracelet/strap watch for sport or daily wear. If your budget allows, you may want to add a sophisticated icon to your collection – legendary names that have been around for centuries. Here, though, we are entering significantly higher price ranges, so only go there when your budget allows. Don’t overlook the independent brands, either. There are so many great independent watchmakers creating limited editions and specialty pieces that sell like hot cakes and that may one day be that “investment” piece. Don't buy all “time only” watches. Make sure to include a complication or two. Complications are any function other than time keeping added to the watch. Chronographs are particularly attractive thanks to theirlook with two, three, or even four subdials as counters. Additionally, a multi-timer or GMT can be useful. It all depends on what your personal needs are. Take your time building your collection and enjoy doing it. Lastly, be careful when buying. Only buy from a reputable source (especially when buying vintage and certified pre-owned) and from an authorized retailer or brand boutique. GET THIS ISSUE NOW
