URWERK's New UR-150 Blue Scorpion Pushes The Boundaries of Watchmaking

While watchmaking is an age-old tradition rooted in centuries of craftsmanship, most timepieces still follow the same familiar formula of dials, hands, and cases. That leaves watchmakers with a blank canvas to reimagine how time can be displayed, and few brands have pushed that boundary as boldly as URWERK. Their creations look less like traditional watches and more like something that just touched down from another planet. It’s an approach that’s captivated a wide range of collectors, from industry icons like Ralph Lauren to basketball legend Michael Jordan. Adding to its already-impressive lineup of watches, URWERK Geneve is proud to debut its all-new UR-150 Scorpion.

The new UR-150 Blue Scorpion is a perfect example of why the independent brand has earned such a cult following among collectors and design lovers. Under its domed sapphire crystal, the watch stages a mechanical showcase on a hundredth-of-a-second scale. Three hour satellites orbit on a flying carousel while a retrograde hand sweeps across a 240° arc, snapping back at lightning speed when the hour changes. It’s a ballet of gears and components, an impressive complication that looks chaotic yet runs with perfect precision. Every hour, the retrograde mechanism frames the satellite in motion, then springs onto the next with an energy release.

Despite the aggressive name, the case flows with smooth, organic lines that combine seamlessly into a rubber strap, making it comfortable on the wrist. The mix of beadblasted steel, sandblasted titanium, and the domed sapphire gives it an industrial yet luxurious look and feel. Limited to only 50 pieces worldwide and priced at CHF 90,000 ($112,665), it’s as exclusive as it is extreme.
