The BMW M1 is quickly becoming a must-have for serious collectors, and its rising value reflects that. Up until the unveiling of the XM SUV late last year, the M1 was the only M-specific model the Bavarian brand produced. In total, 453 M1s left the factory, with 399 street cars and 54 racing variants.
Today’s vehicle listed for sale comes from a family that has owned it since it was new. The original owner imported three M1s, two in orange and one in blue. This example was one of the orange ones until it underwent a color change back in the 1990s. Upon his passing, the original owner left this M1 to his two sons, who took care of the vehicle for nearly 30 years.
With 23,087 miles on the clock, this M1 was well enjoyed by its owners. However, as part of its upkeep, its current owners sent it to the California-based restoration workshop Canepa for a complete refresh. A restoration costing over $125,000 brought this M1 to concourse-level quality. And now it’s looking for a new home.
