Bugatti honors its century-old racing masterpiece.
Recently, the 100th anniversary of the Bugatti Type 35 has been the source of celebration and inspiration for the historic and coveted manufacturer. The car, introduced in 1924, used unprecedented technology and engineering solutions to become one of the most successful racing machines ever. During the active period of the Bugatti Type 35, an incredible 2,500 victories were achieved, cementing its legacy as one of the most important automotive milestones of the early twentieth century.
Averaging 12 race wins per month at its peak of performance, the Bugatti Type 35 began building its legacy with victories like the 1926 Grand Prix World Championship, five consecutive Targa Florio wins, hill climb wins, a victory made in the earliest days of the Nürburgring, and many more. The Bugatti Type 35 was also the victor of the very first Monaco Grand Prix.
100 years later, the Bugatti Type 35 is still remembered as one of the most ambitious, innovative, and successful race cars ever and one of Bugatti’s proudest moments in its long history. Its victory and relentless pioneering spirit inspire the Bugatti hypercars of today, which combine Bugatti’s heritage with incredible luxury, design, innovation, performance, and exclusivity to create some of the world’s most coveted cars, like the Tourbillon, its recent Chiron predecessor, or the track-only Bolide hypercar, of which a special edition was made to honor the Type 35’s 100th anniversary. With its incredible history, Bugatti looks back on its lineage from a century ago to inform us of the excellence of its hypercars today.
