These American supercars have a home-grown legacy and world-class performance.

Both the Ford GT and the Chevrolet Corvette are steeped in history that is incredibly important to the tapestry of the American automotive industry. With one being the main character in what can only be described as a modern tall tale of Ford and Ferrari’s Le Mans rivalry, and the other being one of the country’s most important, iconic, and desirable performance cars for over half a century, the Ford GT vs C8 Corvette comparison is that of two absolute legends. For the first time ever, both are mid-engined supercars, and for the Corvette, that is the result of decades of anticipation and research, and now they compete at a more similar echelon of performance, luxury, and prestige than ever. These American heroes of the car world are tough to beat by any other cars besides each other.

Ford GT Specs

The Ford GT has the heritage of a Le Mans winner, and specifically one that valiantly defeated Ferrari’s 60s Le Mans hegemony in one of the most epic modern David-and-Goliath stories ever. In kind, it has performance bred for the track, with a striking design reminiscent of Le Mans race cars, and an explosive 660 horsepower coming from its EcoBoost V6. With a lightweight carbon fiber monocoque, Gorilla Glass windshield, and even carbon fiber wheels available, the GT is made to be fast, whether it’s approaching its 216 mph top speed on a long straight, or darting through a challenging chain of twists and turns.

C8 Corvette Specs

Fans have been waiting for Chevrolet to develop a mid-engined version of the Corvette since early in the life of the car, and now that it has finally been revealed, it shows off just how much performance potential the Corvette had been hiding for years. Its specs prove exactly why the Corvette is the poster car of American performance, with a naturally aspirated V8 engine that produces 490 horsepower and the lightweight and impressive technology to give it the performance of the supercar that the Corvette is. You’ll get from 0-60 in less than 3 seconds and have a total blast doing it.

Specs Winner: C8 Corvette

Ford GT vs C8 Corvette Engine

The Corvette has always been an immensely powerful car, and humbly so, and the C8 generation of the car is the most dramatic example of that. Especially considering the price of the car, which is dramatically less expensive than the Ford GT, the Corvette puts down performance numbers that go toe-to-toe with the GT and sometimes even exceed it, all while being a much less expensive car that is also much easier to get your hands on. While it might not be as light or as quick on the quarter-mile as the GT, the GT is an incredibly strong opponent, and the Corvette is still very much a world-class supercar with incredibly impressive stats that a skilled driver can make the best of, and save money doing it.

Engine Winner: Ford GT

Ford GT vs C8 Corvette Interior

The two engines in these cars are absolutely incredible. The engine in the Ford GT is a 3.5-liter V6 with twin-turbochargers which is quite similar to the 3.5-liter V6 found in the Ford F-150. In the GT, the engine is rated for 660 horsepower and an incredible 550 lb/ft of torque. In the Corvette Stingray, you’ll find a 6.2-liter V8, which makes an amazing 490 horsepower with 465 lb/ft of torque. The more impressive engine would be the GT’s. The Corvette uses nearly double the displacement compared to the GT, which also has fewer cylinders, and the GT uses its impressive technology to be more powerful. For many brands, it seems that downsizing and turbocharging engines are the future, and the Ford GT proves why that’s not an unfounded conclusion.

Interior Winner: Corvette

Ford GT vs C8 Corvette Performance

The interiors of both of these cars make no bones about the fact that their purpose is performance. Both are driver-focused, performance-oriented, and a perfect place to go fast. The C8 Corvette features both coupe and convertible body styles, and the coupe is a targa top. Align with that, the interior comes with available with upholstery in performance textile or leather in various colors, with different types of seats and the ability to use Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also available is a Bose speaker system, camera-based rear-view mirror, and over-the-air updates. The Ford GT features lots of exposed carbon fiber throughout the interior, and while it does have a relatively modern infotainment system, the screen is much smaller, and there are far fewer features and luxury in general. The winning interior is the Corvette’s, because of its balance of performance and luxury, configurability, and option to experience top-down performance.

Performance Winner: Corvette

Ford GT vs C8 Corvette Investment

In this round, the bang for your buck that the Corvette is known to offer comes into play. You’ve always been able to get quite a fast car for your money with regards to the Corvette, but the C8 is the biggest example of that as it provides incredible performance with sub-3-second 0-60 times and world-class technology in a mid-engined, world-class supercar, all while being offered at a price that undercuts cars that often aren’t as fast, eye-catching, or as iconic. Of course, the Ford GT beats out the Corvette in many performance aspects on paper, but it does so at nearly 8 times the price. As a matter of fact, the GT barely loses out to the Corvette in the 0-60 sprint, and it has more power and less weight. That’s why for performance, the Corvette is our winner.

Investment Winner: Ford GT

For many around the world, both of these incredible machines are dream cars, but when it comes to value, rarity, and collectibility, the GT wins against the C8 Corvette. Getting an allocation to even purchase a Ford GT is a process, and few of these incredibly exclusive cars were made, especially when compared to the C8 Corvette, which is produced in significantly higher numbers. Owning a Ford GT takes quite a bit of cash, but once you make the decision, given that you keep it in great condition and look after it, you’ll have a more desirable car in your garage as the years go by.
