What once was old is new again. Ferrari is making it easy to fall in love with historic racing. Inspired by Enzo's gorgeous and powerful cars of the 50's, Ferrari has created the Icona Series. The first two models are the Monza SP1 and SP2. The first is a single seater with a tonneau cover where the passenger seat would be. If you have a co-pilot, the SP2 has room for one passenger. Ferrari says the design is an homage to the 750 Monza and the 860 Monza, both of which were built to win races around the world.
With looks that are most definitely retro, the drivetrain is all modern. Extensive use of carbon fiber allows them to have the best power-to-weight ratio of any Ferrari Barchetta. Under the hood is the proven powertrain of the 812 Superfast. The Monza SP2 weighs in at 3,350 lbs (dry) with the SP1 being 50 lbs lighter. The notion of having 800 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque without a roof is music to our ears.
Reaching 60 mph in less than 2.9 seconds, you will be at 124 mph in 7.9 seconds. The one-piece hood is hinged at the front, and the doors open upward. The Icona series is aimed at collectors who want more than just low mileage or rare options. This announcement coincides with Reuters reporting that Ferrari intends to launch 15 new models by 2022. What we see here is the start of something unprecedented, so stay with us for all your Ferrari news.
