When Ferrari announced its three-day exhibition at New York City’s Hudson Yards with a charity auction scheduled, a buzz set in throughout the automotive world. The black-tie event at The Shed Performing Arts Center emphasized Ferrari’s longstanding commitment to philanthropy, particularly in education. At the heart of the high-profile event were eight exclusive auction lots that represent the universe that is Ferrari today, from sports cars and racing memorabilia to lifestyle collections.
The pinnacle of the auction was a bespoke Tailor Made Ferrari 812 Competizione, designed in striking custom yellow paintwork and inspired by the sketches of Ferrari Chief Design Officer Flavio Manzoni. This spectacular V12 machine ignited the room, fetching a jaw-dropping $5.1 million. Other auction items like the scale model of the 812 Competizione by Amalgam Collection, the exclusive Montblanc Stilema SP3 pen, and unique Formula 1 experiences also drew intense bidding, surpassing their estimated values. The funds generated will support Ferrari’s ongoing educational initiatives, reinforcing a legacy that began 60 years ago with the Alfredo Ferrari Institute of Higher Education in Maranello.
Ferrari Chairman John Elkann commented on the special bond between Ferrari and America, highlighting shared values like innovation, progress, and a sense of community. The event was further electrified by a performance from 12-time Grammy-winning artist John Legend and appearances by VIPs, including F1 drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, director Michael Mann, and actors Adam Driver and Nicholas Hoult. The exhibition featured a historic timeline of 14 iconic Ferrari models displayed around The Vessel, each telling a tale of Ferrari’s rich heritage, from a 1948 166 MM to the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans-winning 499P Le Mans Hypercar.
A private showroom also showcased the Ferrari Lifestyle Collection, offering personalized style consultations by Creative Director Rocco Iannone. All in all, this Ferrari Gala was an incredible celebration of the Italian supercar manufacturer’s philanthropic spirit, luxurious lifestyle, and memorable mark on automotive history.
