Convertible muscle cars have been highly sought after for decades because of their general rarity, but, on occasion, there will be an exceptional example that serves as a benchmark for the breed. Being offered here is the most highly optioned 1969 Plymouth Hemi GTX Convertible known to exist—a car with spectacular optional equipment, a special color combination and solid provenance. In any form, a top-shelf Plymouth GTX like this would be desirable.
Out of the mere 11 Hemi GTX convertibles produced in 1969, this car is one of six produced with an automatic transmission and one of just five produced for Canadian export. This GTX sports its original VIN and trim tags plus a Dave Wise report, and it beautifully presents itself thanks to the concours rotisserie restoration completed in 2015. Beneath the functional paired-opening Air Grabber hood is the original matching-numbers 426 Hemi V-8 engine with dual 4-barrel carbs, trademark valve covers and excellent detailing. Backed by the A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, this car has both power steering and power brakes featuring front discs.
As shown, the unique color combination is a gorgeous T7 Saddle Bronze Metallic paint with a matched saddle interior and black soft top. This car also came with factory power windows, a power top, front bucket seats with a center console, a performance indicator vacuum gauge, variable speed wipers, hood-mounted turn signals, a 150 MPH speedometer, in-dash tachometer and premium factory AM radio/8-track player equipment. The exterior showcases the red hood inserts, black rocker paint with premium side trim, chrome exhaust tips, Hemi callout tags, sport stripe delete, front and rear rubber-trim bumper guards and chrome GTX fender emblems. Completing the car’s appearance are body-color painted steel wheels with small-diameter chrome hubcaps and redline tires.
Packaged with this combination of premium-priced luxury options, the notorious Hemi powerplant, a seldom-seen color design and the simple rarity of the model’s limited production, this incredible convertible car will draw attention wherever it goes.
