You’ll have to see it to believe it for yourself!
If you ask any passionate car collector and enthusiast, the excitement of buying a new car often comes from the hunt itself, whether it leads you on a cross-country journey or knees deep in a barn find. For The Cultivated Collector founder Matthew Ivanhoe and VinWiki founder Ed Bolian, sourcing and selling the world’s greatest automotive examples occasionally requires you to get down and dirty. On the newest episode of VinWiki, Matthew enlists Ed’s help as he travels south from New Cannan, Connecticut, to Atlanta in search of the ultimate barn (well garage) find. But before jumping to the excitement of uncovering a true American icon in a not-so-showroom condition, Ed shows up at the ATL airport in a bright orange Lamborghini Diablo SV to retrieve Matthew from arrivals.

Once on scene at a clutter-filled home on the outskirts of Georgia, Matthew finally raises the garage door to reveal an untouched 2006 Ford GT. And while you may already be thinking, “Jackpot!” The guys have their work cut out for them as the now-collector-grade supercar is covered in a thick layer of dust and mold. Fully protected from head-to-toe in hazmat suits recently purchased from Home Depot on the way over, Matthew and Ed get to work trying to formulate a plan to retrieve the Ford GT from the depths of the garage. Sitting for close to 15 years, the duo hops inside the mold-filled cabin and somehow maneuvers it out under its own power.

The 2006 Ford GT stands out as one of the quickest appreciating collector cars on the market today, with 4,038 total examples ever produced as an homage to the original homologation car. With only four available options new from the factory, this silver build showcases itself as a two-option configuration with silver racing stripes and the McIntosh sound system. Once safely secured on a flatbed truck, the Ford GT makes its trek to DC MotorWerks, where it’s going to receive a full refresh before being presented to an already-anticipated buyer. As Matthew and Ed spend more time resurrecting the moldy Ford GT, stay tuned into duPont REGISTRY for progress updates.
