Modern Limited Production Cars
In addition to the early, race-worn models that set the market with high auction prices, Porsche’s costliest cars are those that rolled off the factory line as road-legal production cars. Leading the pack is the Porsche 918 Spyder, the manufacturer’s first hybrid supercar, with a base MSRP of $845,000. With only 918 units produced, the 918 Spyder is a key member of the 'Holy Trinity' of hybrid hypercars and now sells well into the $3 to $4 million. Another collector favorite is the Carrera GT, featuring Porsche Motorsports’ famed naturally-aspirated V10 engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. Originally priced at $440,000, its value has skyrocketed over the years, especially as the industry shifts towards EV powertrains and automatic transmissions.
Collector-Grade Auction Highlights
Leading the charge is the legendary 1970 Porsche 917K, recognized by its iconic Gulf Racing livery, which sold for an incredible $14,080,000. Another notable mention is the 1982 Porsche 956, raced in the Rothmans livery, which brought $10,120,000 due to its record-setting lap at the Nürburgring. The oldest in the elite lineup is the 1953 Porsche 550 Rennsport Spyder, with only 90 examples produced. The 110-horsepower classic sold for $6,100,000 at auction. And most recently, a 1-of-1 PTS Pure Orange Porsche 918 Spyder selling for a record-breaking $6,050,000 at Mecum Kissimmee 2026. If there’s one thing to know, it's that Porsche sports cars and race cars are timeless treasures that appreciate like fine wine.
