Genesis goes off the beaten path with yet another concept.
Not even a decade into its existence, Genesis has gone from a newbie to a serious player in the highly competitive and saturated luxury automotive arena. Thanks to a lineup of vehicles that combine luxury-focused engineering, elegant design, sumptuous appointments, and high-tech innovation, Genesis has already established itself as a manufacturer with a known design language and favored staples in the luxury sedan and luxury SUV markets. However, its meteoric rise is still only beginning.
With lots on the horizon, Genesis has unveiled a slew of concepts, like a high-performance racing and road car pair as part of Polyphony Digital’s Vision Gran Turismo series for the Gran Turismo racing simulator video game, as well as the Neolun, which envisions a ultra-luxe electric SUV flagship, and the X Gran Convertible and X Gran Coupe that show off G90-based tourers. In addition, a new Magma performance arm from Genesis is forming, with a Le Mans-bound racing hypercar unveiled and the signature Magma orange color decorating a number of performance-oriented Genesis concept cars.
Yet still, Genesis has refused to stop there, with yet another new concept vehicle unveiled, this time an off-roader. Called the new Genesis X Gran Equator Concept, the concept SUV combines Genesis’ signature design cues, like lighting designs consisting of two parallel lines, with retrofuturistic shapes and a silhouette that evokes the likes of the original Range Rover. Clean lines and uninterrupted surfaces lend the spotlight to the vehicle’s off-roading features, like 24-inch beadlock wheels and sleek roof rails.
Genesis’ luxurious aesthetic prevails, with a long hood and a sloping rear section. Inside, the same inspirations inform the design, with a four-circle display cluster on the dash inspired by vintage cameras, and geometric shapes evoking a retro-inspired aesthetic, with modular storage and swiveling front seats enhancing practicality and a split tailgate as well. The concept, which is not confirmed for production, shows off Genesis’ design potential, and is set to be shown off at the upcoming 2025 New York International Auto Show, and then at Genesis House in New York’s Meatpacking District until the end of July.
