One of the most anticipated supercars gets a new home.
The name Gordon Murray carries significant weight in the automotive world, thanks to his design portfolio consisting of absolutely undeniable legends like the McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. However, he isn’t resting on his laurels, as his new brand, Gordon Murray Automotive, is now a purveyor of incredible driver’s cars that preserve the celebrated principles and tried-and-true formula of what makes performance cars great, while adding his unique design principles and performance innovation expertise.
The premier model from Gordon Murray Automotive is the T.50, a supercar reminiscent of the legendary McLaren F1 with a center driving position, 3 seats, and butterfly doors. However, it also features fan-assisted and active aerodynamics, a six-speed manual transmission, and a Cosworth-built 3.9-liter V12 engine that revs to an unfathomable 12,100 rpm. Announced today, the 100-car limited production run of the T.50 is going to be built at a new Gordon Murray Automotive headquarters facility located in Highams Park, Surrey, England.
Moving out of the previous Dunsfold Park facility, the new facility will offer more efficient manufacturing for the T.50, while also allowing more space to be made at Dunsfold Park to build carbon fiber monocoque prototypes for the T.33 and future models. The new facility was the result of an investment of over $62 million, serving as a global headquarters for Gordon Murray Automotive, and boasting a 46,000 square-foot production center.
In addition, the new Highams Park facility will house the Gordon Murray Heritage Collection, a Vehicle Dynamics Test Road for final validation and pre-delivery checks, and a Driving Perfection Customer Center, a place where clients can configure, specify, set up, and take delivery of their Gordon Murray Automotive supercars in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Once the 100-car run of the T.50 is completed, the production facility will turn to building the track-only T.50s Niki Lauda, then to the T.33, and after that, the T.33 Spider. With a bright future ahead and a glorious new headquarters facility, Gordon Murray Automotive looks forward both to innovating and preserving the pure joy of automotive excellence.
