After 62 years, Jaguar Classic is hitting the restart button on the production line for the iconic D-type race car. The revitalized car will be hand-built at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Warwickshire, England, with only 25 examples being built. Why 25? Back in 1955, Jaguar planned on building 100 D-type racers, but only 75 were completed. Now, the English automaker is making good on their original production quota over six decades later.

And it’s just as spectacular today,” says Tim Hannig, Jaguar Land Rover Classic Director. “The opportunity to continue the D-type model’s success story, by completing its planned production run in Coventry, is one of those once-in-a-lifetime projects that our world-class experts at Jaguar Land Rover Classic are proud to fulfill.”
The team at Jaguar Classic have research original engineering records to ensure that what they’ve set out to build is true to the original specifications. This also means that customers will be able to choose between the two original specs: 1955-specification Shortnose or 1956-specification Longnose.
