Lamborghini’s production model returns home after 60 years.
It was in 1963 when Lamborghini was first established, and as such, Lamborghini spent last year recognizing its 60th anniversary with a whole host of incredible celebrations, not least introducing the newest chapter of its supercar history: the hybrid V12 Revuelto. However, it was in 1964 when Lamborghini introduced its first production model. 60 years later, that very car, the Lamborghini 350 GT, has returned to where it first broke cover: Geneva.
Home of one of the world’s most legendary auto shows, Geneva is where Lamborghini revealed the production-spec 350 GT, which played an absolutely crucial role in setting the manufacturer off on the path that would bring it to becoming the incredible force it is 60 years later in the supercar world. With a 3.5-liter V12 with four overhead camshafts, a Dallara-designed chassis, and a body from Carrozzeria Touring, it was fast, beautiful, and revolutionary in its time.
Its interior was nothing short of luxurious, with leather and chrome plating throughout, and a 2+1 configuration that saw two front seats paired with one central rear seat. The car was an immediate success, and its sequel, the 4.0-liter 400 GT, built even further on that popularity. The original car shown in 1964 was finished in Geneva Green with a white interior, and while that car was used for development and testing after that, it was destroyed by being rear-ended.
However, the very second example has been beautifully preserved: finished in a metallic gray with a red interior, and today it’s the oldest existing production Lamborghini, carefully restored by Lamobrghini’s Polo Storico department. To celebrate that incredible history, Lamborghini brought the car back to its birthplace, in a sense, letting it roam the streets of Geneva to celebrate its rich legacy and paramount importance to Lamborghini’s history.
