The I.C.E. St. Moritz served Lamborghini legacy on the rocks this year.
Lamborghini is now 61 years old, with last year seeing incredible celebrations taking place for the 60th anniversary of its establishment in 1963, including the introduction of the Revuelto, Lamborghini’s latest flagship supercar which uses hybrid technology to achieve an incredible 1,001 horsepower. However, with 61 years of history, there is a lexicon of heritage vehicles that Lamborghini’s Polo Storico department celebrates and preserves.
Some of the most iconic of those cars were highlighted at the I.C.E. St. Moritz, or the International Concours of Elegance, where automotive excellence from all over the world gathers at one of the most beautiful frozen lakes to revel in automotive history, luxury, and thrills in a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Courtesy of Lamborghini Polo Storico, the 1973 Lamborghini Jarama GTS and the 1968 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 were highlighted.
While both cars represent different eras in Lamborghini’s long history, both feature a shared, iconic powertrain: Lamborghini’s front-longitudinal mounted 4-liter V12. The 400 GT is an example of Lamborghini’s early days, with revised styling compared to the 350 GT, as well as with its engine increased to 4 liters. As a luxurious and beautiful grand tourer with signature rounded 60s styling, the 400 GT received glowing reviews upon its introduction, helping Lamborghini make a big step in establishing itself as one of Italy’s automotive titans.
The Jarama GTS shows Lamborghini’s evolution as it moved closer towards the Lamborghini that the manufacturer is known for being today, with more angular Bertone-penned styling that echoes the modern futurism Lamborghini continues to employ today, with unique “eyelids” that cover the headlights when they are not being used. With 365 horsepower, and a luxurious four-seat interior, the Jarama GTS was one of the most excellent grand touring machines of its time.
Lamborghini’s long history is full of some of the most interesting cars to come out of Italy’s prestigious and revered automotive industry, and on the dazzling frozen stage of the I.C.E. St. Moritz this year, some of the most intriguing pieces from Lamborghini’s Polo Storico archive took the spotlight.
