What happens when two Italian icons face off on the tarmac?
Not long ago, sport bikes ruled the streets and race tracks with featherweight frames and high-revving engines putting serious power down to one rear wheel. But as supercars and hypercars keep pushing boundaries with electrified powertrains and impressive performance figures, the gap between four wheels and two is starting to feel a whole lot tighter.

Few things in the automotive world are more fun than watching a supercar and superbike duke it out, and that’s exactly what recently happened at Imola. Lamborghini brought out the all-new Temerario, its 920 horsepower hybrid supercar that’s wild on paper and even more in motion. Ducati rolled up with the latest MotoGP-inspired Panigale V4 superbike. Both lined up on the straightaway for a flat-out drag race, and it was on.

The Lamborghini Temerario is built around a brand-new twin-turbo V8 paired with three electric motors, laying down a 0 to 62 mph time in 2.7 seconds and a top speed over 210 mph. It has a launch control system triggered by a little checkered flag button on the steering wheel. The Ducati, meanwhile, is in its seventh generation of Panigale V4, packing 216 horsepower and loaded with tech like Race eCBS braking and chassis improvements to keep it quick and confident on the track.

When both launched from the line, the Lamborghini’s launch control showed off just how quick hybrid systems have gotten. The Panigale V4 didn’t back down, but the Temerario held its own with a sophisticated all-wheel-drive system. As electrified supercars keep pushing the limits of what’s possible, races like this show just how close the gap is getting between superbikes and supercars.
