Maserati revives a legendary livery with its new racing masterpiece.
Maserati’s new performance era was spurred by the introduction of its MC20, a successor to its iconic MC12 supercar and the harbinger of a new chapter of engineering excellence for Maserati, thanks to its racing-derived engineering, compelling looks, and especially the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Nettuno V6 engine that not only powers the MC20, but also models throughout Maserati’s current lineup.
However, the MC20 itself served as the basis for a series of even more intense Maserati supercar models, like the GT2 race car, the GT2 Stradale, a street legal variant of it, and the Maserati MCXtrema, a track-only supercar for an ultra-exclusive circle of just 62 owners. With this year’s 24 Hours of Spa bringing a daunting endurance challenge to one of the world’s most iconic racing circuits, Maserati’s MCXtrema has the honor of serving as the leader of the race’s traditional opening parade.
The specific MCXtrema for the job is finished with a black and bright blue livery, which is recognizable to racing enthusiasts as it echoes the legendary MC12 GT1 race car that the Vitaphone Racing Team used to three victories and two runner-up finishes on the very same circuit. With a special livery that honors an incredible triumph in the previous chapter of Maserati’s racing history, the Trident’s new MCXtrema is the latest addition to a cherished motorsport legacy.
