Mercedes-Benz proves its worth in the most demanding conditions.
As part of a recent press event held in the mountains of Öztal, Austria, Mercedes-Benz brought out the very best in its lineup to highlight the extreme capabilties of the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. While most may commonly refer to models like the G-Class and GLE-Class for top-tier traction, Mercedes shocked all in attendance with demonstration vehicles that ranged from luxury passenger sedans to versatile sprinter vans. The latest version of 4MATIC is lighter and smarter, designed to work perfectly with hybrid and electric setups by perfectly distributing power between the front and rear axles. Although the ways on how it operates between each model line differ slightly, 4MATIC’s core benefits focus on improved driving stability, enhanced safety, and heightened dynamics in a variety of conditions.
The use of sophisticated all-wheel-drive systems dates back to the early 20th century for Mercedes-Benz, when Technical Director Paul Daimler laid the foundations for four-wheel drive in 1903. Some of the first vehicles to showcase the innovative feature were adopted by the Austrian and Prussian miltary, long before it was introduced for the first time as 4MATIC in 1985. Today, those virtues of safety and comfort are still the driving focus behind the models that dominated the Austrian Alps, including the AMG C 63 S E PERFORMANCE, AMG E 53 HYBRID, S 580e, AMG G 63, G 580, and commercial segment Sprinter. With over 120 years of innovation and continued improvements, Mercedes-Benz prides itself on engineering performance cars and luxury SUVs without limits.
