The long-awaited Mythos series from Mercedes-Benz has begun.
Years ago, Mercedes-Benz announced that it would place a stronger focus on its high-end luxury offerings, including top-of-the-line models like the S-Class and the G-Class, as well as vehicles from the AMG and Maybach lineups. However, one of the most interesting parts of the announcement was that Mercedes-Benz would be launching a series of highly exclusive collector-grade cars entitled Mythos.
It’s taken years for the first Mythos vehicle to take shape. Some time ago in Monaco, the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed Concept debuted, showing an eye-catching performance-oriented barchetta with unique looks and thrilling driving character. Mercedes-Benz said the production version would be the kick-off for the Mythos series. After a long development cycle, that production version is finally here, with Mercedes-Benz revealing the new Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed as the first limited-series car in the Mythos lineup.
Like the concept car, the PureSpeed boasts a barchetta design with no roof or windshield, a unique shark nose design, and other design elements inspired by the radical Mercedes-AMG ONE hypercar. Other racing-focused details include carbon fiber aero discs on the wheels and an F1-inspired HALO system in place of an A-pillar. The design is inspired by modern Mercedes-Benz racing heroes and classic legends like the 300 SLR.
IWC Schaffhausen created a custom analog clock for the Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed’s interior, designed to look like it is floating in the dashboard. Other stunning interior details include the Burmester High-End 3D Surround Sound System with 15 speakers and 1,170 watts of power, a ‘1-of-250’ commemorative badge, and two-tone black and white leather upholstery with several carbon fiber accents.
With a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the new Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed boasts 577 horsepower going to all four wheels and rockets from 0-60 in less than 3.6 seconds towards a top speed of 196 mph. Advanced active aerodynamics and rear-axle steering add to the thrilling experience, heightened by the lack of a roof or windshield. With incredible performance, enviable exclusivity, and bespoke luxury, the new Mercedes-AMG PureSpeed has gotten the highly-anticipated Mythos series off to a thrilling start.
