Following the introduction of the facelifted third-generation Porsche Cayenne earlier this year, the German carmaker has pulled the covers on its most powerful variant ever, the Turbo E-Hybrid. This updated trim takes the title thanks to its massive 729 horsepower output, a full 79 hp more than you get in the Turbo GT and 59 hp more than the outgoing Turbo S E-Hybrid.
Power comes from a hybrid powertrain, combining a 591-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and a 174-hp electric motor for a total system output of 729 hp and 700 pound-feet of torque. The motor is nestled within its eight-speed automatic and sees a 40-hp increase over the outgoing unit. The added grunt allows this Cayenne to sprint to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and top out at 183 mph.
Under its trunk sits a larger 25.9-kilowatt-hour battery pack, up from 17.9 kWh in its predecessor, theoretically granting this SUV greater electric-only range. However, the carmaker has yet to publish official figures. A new 11 kilowatt will allow charge times under 2.5 hours despite the increased battery capacity.
Like previous Turbo models, this latest iteration gets unique front and rear bumpers, body color-painted wheel arches, and quad exhaust tips. Inside, a GT Sport steering wheel comes as standard, as do 18-way adjustable Sport seats and a Race-Tex headliner.
The Turbo E-Hybrid benefits from the two-chamber, two-valve adaptive air suspension system introduced with this year’s facelift, except it comes standard in this trim level. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus joins the list of included equipment, while Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control and rear-axle steering can be selected as optional extras.
The 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid is available to order today and is expected to arrive at dealerships in Q2 2024. It starts at $148,550, including a $1,650 destination fee, while the Coupe variant starts slightly higher at $153,050. Porsche has yet to announce whether it plans to build an even more powerful range-topping Turbo S E-Hybrid.
