The Fox Body Mustang is back, in spirit at least, because Ford just pulled the wraps off the FX Package for the 2026 Mustang. With its retro-inspired theme, the appearance package gives the modern-day S650 a heavy dose of 1980s swagger. Available exclusively on 2026 Mustang GT Premium models, regardless of the transmission or body style you opt for, or the addition of the Performance Package, Ford’s goal with the FX package is to target the millennial crowd born in the 1980s and ‘90s.
This move is a part of a broader playbook of Ford looking back at historic models, which is something that the Blue Oval has been playing successfully in recent years. After the company revived the Bronco nameplate and the smaller Bronco Sport in 2020, heritage-inspired trims with deep roots in the 1960s were subsequently introduced on both models. Think white grille, classic wheels, two-tone paint, and retro touches in the cabin.

That same formula is now being applied to the Mustang. While the S197 was truly the model to reintroduce the ‘60s Fastback styling to the modern age and we have seen special packages for the S650 before, the FX package celebrates the Fox Body era with unique Oxford white touches. You’ll find it everywhere, from the 19-inch wheels, the 5.0 GT and Pony badges, and even in the grille nostrils. Standard FX variants feature Dark Carbonized Gray nostrils, while Performance Pack cars feature Gloss Black with White nostrils. Oxford White taillights will be available for all seventh-gen Mustang owners through Ford Performance Parts.
Another exterior highlight are the wheels. While the FX’s standard five-spoke design is a fresh take on the current Mustang wheel, Performance Pack cars get a design that takes cues from OG Fox Body alloys. Finished in mid-gloss Oxford White with color-matched center caps, they bear an all-new, FX-exclusive Mustang GT wordmark inspired by the 1987-’93 models. The Oxford white accents should also serve as a contrast against the Adriatic Blue Metallic seen here (a modern take on the classic Teal) and Orange Fury Metallic Tricoat.
Inside, the retro-throwback theme continues with a new leather upholstery with black and white perforated inserts that mimic the plaid patterns of the third-gen Mustang. Optional Recaro seats (Coupe only) also carry the same retro flair. Double contrast stitching in City Silver and Adriatic Blue, across the seats, dash, steering wheel, and doors, along with new seat belt options in International Orange, Prime Blue, or Black with red stripes, ties everything together.
So if you are someone who grew up with posters of a Fox Body-era Mustang on your bedroom wall or drove one back in high school, the FX Package might just get you a proper hit of nostalgia. Ford hasn’t announced pricing yet, but you won’t have to wait long to find out as order Books open in late June.
