Founded over two decades ago, the Japanese automotive design and technology company, AIM, is stepping into the future by bringing its new EV Sport 01 to Goodwood’s legendary hillclimb. This electrifying debut will take place at the much-anticipated Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 13-16, with the EV Sport 01 participating in the ‘First Glance’ category of timed runs. The vehicle, a compact yet powerful sports coupe, harnesses the energy an advanced pair of electric motors in a dual-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration. With over 600bhp and weighing in at under 3,306 lbs, it is quick, nimble, and fun to drive, deviating from the growing all-wheel-drive trend in the electric vehicle industry that combines heavy weight with immense power carving out a new niche in the EV world.
AIM’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Yukinori Suzuki, explains that this divergence from the industry norm of EV supercars was by design. He emphasized the company’s vision for the EV Sport 01 was to ensure it was not only quick but also enjoyable to drive. This dynamic driveability, coupled with the opportunity to showcase the capabilities of AIM’s advanced powertrain development, has Suzuki excited to take the vehicle up the hill at Goodwood.
The design of the EV Sport 01 was helmed by Shiro Nakamura of SN Design Platform. With a nod to the classic sports cars of the 1960s, the EV Sport 01 combines dynamism with sophisticated elegance, showcasing a clean, minimalistic design. While the EV Sport 01 was primarily created as a concept and a platform to demonstrate AIM’s capabilities, the early reaction to the car has encouraged AIM to explore the potential of a limited series production run.
The EV Sport 01’s impressive technical specifications include a dual-motor real-wheel-drive configuration, an advanced torque vectoring system producing a combined 600 horsepower and maximum torque of 546 lb/ft, along with a body made from a carbon fiber laminate structure. AIM’s foray into electric vehicle design with the EV Sport 01 signifies an exciting new chapter for the company. With its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, AIM is ready to showcase the future of electric sports car technology.
