Celebrated motorcycle customizer Dirk Oehlerking takes BMW R 18 to new heights with the introduction of “The Crown,” a masterpiece of motorcycle design. Recognized for his spectacular creations, Oehlerking brings over 30 years of expertise and passion to the table, exemplified in his latest BMW R 18 project.
As a tribute to 100 years of BMW Motorrad, Oehlerking has infused “The Crown” with a unique design language that encapsulates power, elegance, and innovation. It starts with a stripped-down BMW R 18, which was then transformed with meticulously handcrafted body parts made of 2 mm thick aluminum sheet metal, forming an 8-liter fuel tank and a unique, double-sided swinging arm with central suspension strut in the front wheel suspension.
In terms of performance, the engine and rear suspension remain true to the original BMW R 18, while the dual stainless-steel exhaust manifolds are completely hand-made, attesting to Oehlerking’s dedication to craftsmanship. Standard components such as the headlight, instrument, and footrest system blend seamlessly into “The Crown” concept, bolstered by high-end additions like the Magura clutch and handbrake fittings, Wunderkind’s rear mudguard, and a saddle blanketed in genuine leather.
Crowning the bike is a lavish Champagne Platinum paint finish with mother-of-pearl accents, topped off by a BMW emblem crowned in miniature. Mark your calendars for the unveiling of the BMW R 18 “The Crown” from July 7-9th at the BMW Motorrad Days in Berlin, celebrating 100 years of BMW Motorrad.
