The Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1400 set an incredible NHRA record for electric vehicles by completing the quarter-mile at nearly 172 mph in just 8.128 seconds. However, Ford is looking to break the record yet again, and the car for the job is the new Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800. With revisions throughout, this car promises to learn from the Super Cobra Jet 1400 and improve for higher speed and an obliterated quarter-mile record for electric vehicles. Collaborating with names like AEM-EV and MLe Racecars as Ford Performance did with the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1400, this new car continues to push the limits of electric power.
One of the most important improvements to the car is in its battery system, which is now lighter. Through a revised transmission, it sends power to the rear wheels, where there is a newly-revised suspension geometry and Mickey Thompson drag radial tires for the best launch possible. As the name suggests, the total horsepower of the car comes to a hefty 1,800. With its new improvements, the new Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800, with Pat McCue in the driver’s seat, will set out to break the quarter-mile full-bodied electric vehicle record, the electric vehicle 0-60 record, and the fastest two-wheel drive electric vehicle 0-60 record at an NHRA event soon, and when it does, electric vehicle performance and automotive performance, in general, will be pushed forward.
