It has been 50 years since the the premiere of “The Italian Job”, and many considered the wrecked Lamborghini Miura to be long gone. But there is another side to the story. In the latest news from Sant’Agata Bolognese, Lamborghini Polo Storico has found the Miura from “The Italian Job”.
Paramount didn’t have the budget for destroying a new Miura, so they chose a heavily damaged one for the action scene. They needed a pristine example for the driving scenes, and one was coming down the assembly line. Retired employee Enzo Moruzzi remembers delivering the car to the set, so he was asked to help authenticate the car.
It had changed hands several times, winding up in the Kaiser Collection of Vaduz. It was shipped from Liechtenstein to Polo Storico, where it was examined top to bottom. All the numbers matched, and Chassis #3586 proved to be the “Hero Car” of the film’s opening scenes.
