The Polestar Design Contest has always been a ground-breaking platform for reimagining the future of sustainable, high-performance supercars and hypercars. This year, the contest reached new heights with the unveiling of a life-sized model of ‘Polestar Synergy’, a fantasy electric supercar, at IAA 2023 in Munich. Developed in collaboration with Mattel’s Hot Wheels, the partnership between both brands focuses on innovation and performance, challenging the limits of automotive design. The ‘Polestar Synergy’ is a masterpiece that encapsulates the essence of electric performance and sustainability. Born from over 600 design entries, the judging panel shortlisted ten and selected three winners, two for exterior design and one for interior. The result is a car with an intriguing blend of volumes, inspired by hammerhead sharks, and materials that age gracefully, enhancing durability. At its core, the vehicle features a single-seat floating interior centered around “floating comfort and control.”
Roberto Stanichi, SVP and Global Head of Vehicles at Mattel, couldn’t be more thrilled. “This collaboration pushes the boundaries of auto design, embodying the grit, determination, and passion that define Hot Wheels,” he said. With dimensions standing at just 3.5 feet tall and 15 feet long, the ‘Synergy’ manages to provide an electric supercar vibe that’s just as exhilarating as any internal combustion counterpart. But the collaboration doesn’t stop here. The 1:1 scale model will kick off its tour at the Hot Wheels Legends Tour in El Segundo, California, starting October 7, 2023. Meanwhile, the partnership expands, turning Polestar’s production vehicles into future Hot Wheels and Matchbox collectibles. It’s a bold step, one that merges two iconic brands in a fusion of electrification, performance, and collectible nostalgia.
