The 2024 Velocity Invitational at Sonoma Raceway was a weekend packed with rare cars and thrilling on-track action. From October 4th to 6th, the event featured everything from modern, million-dollar hypercars to iconic, winning open-wheel racers. Guests were treated to an extensive mix of historic cars, celebrating 70 years of the Jaguar D-Type and even showcasing classic NASCAR stock cars. The inaugural Velocity Invitational Hill Climb was a hit, with Scott Speed taking first place in Subaru’s WRX Project Midnight. The fuel-driven event drew in big industry names like Romain Grosjean, Tony Kanaan, and James Kirkham, all showing off their skills on the challenging Sonoma circuit.
Throughout the weekend, all in attendance witnessed Formula 1 champion Jenson Button drive a trio of priceless legends, including his 1952 Jaguar C-Type. Arrow McLaren’s Tony Kanaan was also on the scene, hitting the track with future team members Christian Lundgaard and Nolan Siegel. From a Ford Mustang Boss 302 to the iconic Lotus 77 Formula 1 car, the diversity of historic race cars was a real highlight. Drifters weren’t left out either, with pros like Travis Pastrana and Ryan Tuerck taking high-speed, smoke-filled drift runs in the 1983 Subaru GL Family Huckster and 650-horsepower 1966 Toyota Stout.
DirtFish rally cars brought even more excitement to the weekend with their Group B lineup, including an Audi Sport Quattro and a Lancia Delta S4 Corsa, flying around Sonoma’s road course. Fans also got the chance to ride along in rally-tuned Subaru BRZs on a gravel rally stage set up at the track. Off-track, there was no shortage of entertainment, from lowrider displays to chef Tyler Florence serving up tasty treats. Women in Motorsport panels and autograph sessions gave fans the chance to meet stars like Pippa Mann and Michelle Abbate. The 2024 Velocity Invitational left fans eager for next year’s event, which moves to June 6-8, 2025, at Sonoma Raceway.
