Polestar adds confidence to pre-owned EV shopping.
With a rapidly growing lineup of luxury electric vehicles, including a grand tourer and a roadster that are still on the horizon, Polestar is transforming the landscape of the electric vehicle market with bold innovation and signature futuristic Scandinavian style. However, regarding Polestar’s existing vehicles, pre-owned examples of the Polestar 2 face a challenge that any used EV on the market will face, and that is the question of battery health.
Obviously, the battery is crucial to the reliability and longevity of an electric vehicle, and concerns about the battery health over time, like the battery on a laptop or smartphone, give buyers justified pause when it comes to purchasing any electric vehicle secondhand, including Polestar 2 examples. Now, Polestar is announcing a solution to that problem and giving pre-owned EV buyers peace of mind when it comes to the Polestar 2, by offering certificates for the battery health of pre-owned luxury cars.
Through a new Polestar pre-owned program, examples of the Polestar 2 that are listed for sale are selected to re-enter Polestar’s network as certified used EVs, and that certification only comes after a rigorous 112-point inspection. Cars that are certified get the remainder of their 8-year battery warranty, and a 24-month warranty. However, beyond that, Polestar is now introducing battery state-of-health, or BSOH certificates that transparently display the battery health of pre-owned examples.
This initiative, aiming to extend the life of EVs as years pass, works in conjunction with Polestar’s over-the-air updates that are available for the Polestar 2, keeping the model as current and advanced as possible as the years go on. With the certification of pre-owned models, over-the-air updates, and the transparency of battery health certificates, Polestar is committing to the long-term sustainability of its luxury electric vehicles.
