The new Porsche 911 Dakar brings a motorsport star across the desert.
Amna Al Qubaisi is one of the newest names in racing, drawing attention from fans by winning two races in last year’s F1 Academy season. Her racing success has made her a well-known face on the track at only 23 years old, but Porsche is helping her expand her horizons even further, putting her behind the wheel of the new all-terrain capable Porsche 911 Dakar to journey from Abu Dhabi to the Liwa Tal Moreeb Festival.
The festival, held in the Empty Quarter desert under the shadow of the Moreeb Dune, is an important part of the Middle Eastern desert driving tradition. At the week-long festival, drag races, classic car competitions, motocross, and drifting are all celebrated, with traditional cuisine and culture surrounding the event.
The journey was made both easy and exciting with the 911 Dakar, showing off its sports car prowess in the streets of Abu Dhabi, with Al Qubaisi describing the car’s behavior as “smooth, fast, and stable.” However, it shows just as much confidence and character in the dunes. After driving the car off-road, Amna says “You can go all out and not worry about losing control.”
While this was Al Qubaisi’s first time driving the Porsche 911 Dakar, her connection to Porsche is an existing one, with her passion for racing beginning with seeing her father racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup. That same passion for racing was passed down from his generation to hers, and today, she carries the torch and ignites interest in the sport for young people across her region. In her time with the Porsche 911 Dakar, however, Amna Al Qubaisi got a once-in-a-lifetime driving experience in one of the most versatile sports cars you can get.
