A bespoke Porsche 911 GT3 RS is just the car for a racing legend.
It was more than 20 years ago in February 2003 when a privately-owned Porsche 911 GT3 RS won the 24 Hours of Daytona. That car was owned by Jörg Bergmeister, who raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup, and won the 24-hour Daytona race on only his second attempt. Together with him were Michael Schrom, Timo Bernhard and Kevin Buckler, the team owner, and the car’s unforgettable livery paired bright blue and yellow.
The team are still close friends to this day, and when the incredible 992-generation version of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was announced in 2022, Schrom convinced Bergmeister to begin an 18-month journey that would result in an incredible homage to that very winning race car, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the heroic 2003 victory.
With an allocation for the GT3 RS with Paint To Sample, and with the help of Porsche’s Sonderwunsch bespoke department, Bergmeister was able to create a new 911 GT3 RS that echoed the livery of the GT3 RS that won the 2003 24 Hours of Daytona. It started with matching the car’s original color: Riviera Blue.
Riviera Blue is a color that Bergmeister has been familiar with since his early days of racing formula cars in Germany. The car forgoes the popular Weissach Package in order to have all the correct panels finished in Riviera Blue, with accents in Racing Yellow that match the accent color of the original livery. In addition, the underside of the wing is painted with a Porsche Crest.
The interior boasts black leather upholstery with GT Silver stitching, along with the Club Sports package that adds a road-legal fire extinguisher to the mix, which echoes the original car’s racing purpose. The carbon fiber door sill panel features lettering that echoes the Rolex watches that winners of the 24 Hours of Daytona receive.
Bergmeister, after a long wait, received his new bespoke Porsche 911 GT3 RS on his 48th birthday in Porsche’s home of Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, Germany. Now, the car is receiving full paint protection, and Bergmeister is anxiously awaiting spring weather to make conditions better before he takes it out on the road. Being a 20th anniversary homage to one of the greatest moments in his racing career, it’s simply too precious to be a daily driver.
