This owner’s Porsche collection is one of his biggest motivations.
Scottish Porsche collector Russell Shand has an unusual schedule. He spends three weeks at home with his family, and after that, three weeks on a gas platform in the North Sea where he works as an offshore installation manager. The cycle then repeats. Besides his family, what he looks forward to at home is his incredible collection of Porsches, which consists of a 911 GT3 Touring, and both the 997-generation Porsche 911 Sport Classic, and the 992-generation 911 Sport Classic, both rare creations that celebrate the 911’s incredible 60-year legacy.

Shand’s love for Porsche goes back years, starting with a ride in the V8-powered 928. With a resolve to own a Porsche since then, Shand’s first Porsche was a Boxster S, and then a 1972 911 E that he drove on his wedding day.
One of only 250 cars made, the 997 Sport Classic is his favorite, that he brings on road trips with his family when he gets to spend time with them. One of his favorite things to do in his downtime on the oil platform is plan these trips, whether it’s navigating the challenge of packing everything a family needs in a sports car, or making sure they get to drive on new passes and experience new adventures.
Their destinations have included Prague, Berlin, the Balkans, and Venice, and some of the iconic roads the family drives on include the Grossglockner, Stelvio, St. Gotthard passes. However, an important piece of the puzzle is stopping at one of the family’s favorite destinations: Porsche’s home city of Stuttgart. With an incredible Porsche collection and a lifestyle that makes experiencing it even more special, Russell Shand’s Porsche collection serves as an extension of his family, and part of what makes his time on the gas platform worthwhile.
