More About Porsche
Any car enthusiast knows that there’s no experience quite like driving on a winding mountain road, and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria happens to be one of the greatest and most historic. Ferry Porsche tested cars by driving on the road, and now, Ferdinand Porsche has opened F.A.T. Mankei, a restaurant and coffee shop that will serve as the hub for cars and coffee events imbued with history. Its opening was also supported by Porsche Heights, an organization that celebrates the mountain and Porsche history.
The building where F.A.T. stands now used to be a burned-down wooden hut, and when it was available for sale, Ferdinand Porsche decided to buy it to make it a place where Porsche events happen and enthusiasts can gather and experience the pedigree of the mountain pass. The name F.A.T. comes from one of Ferdinand’s favorite cars: the Porsche 962, which won Le Mans in 1994. F.A.T. was the logistics company that sponsored it, which has since gone defunct. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, Porsche enjoys a community of enthusiasts that are passionate about cars from throughout the manufacturer’s long history, and Porsches of all eras were in attendance. A new way to celebrate one of the world’s favorite automotive manufacturers is here, and it’s one of the best ones yet.
