Porsche’s next EV model is on the horizon.
Since its introduction, the Porsche Macan, Porsche’s second, smaller SUV model, has traded places with the legendary Cayenne SUV as Porsche’s most popular model in its lineup. However, the Porsche Macan is on the cusp of undergoing a big change, as an all-electric version of the small luxury sports SUV is set to be the second all-electric Porsche model after the Taycan.
It’s been a decade since the launch of the original Macan, and the new all-electric Porsche Macan will be the first vehicle built on Porsche’s PPE (Premium Platform Electric), and therefore, its intense and rigorous testing program is not only for the EV Macan but for the platform as a whole.
Being an SUV, much of the most important. real-world testing for the new electric Macan takes place off-road, while virtual and wind tunnel testing helps ensure efficiency and sporty character. With a drag coefficient of just 0.25, the new Macan is one of the most aerodynamically efficient SUVs yet, which is paramount to EV performance and efficiency.
Over two million miles of testing on public roads and test tracks have already been driven, and those miles include driving on snow, sand, ice, mud, rocks, and in a wide range of weather conditions, from -22 degrees Fahrenheit to 122 degrees, and thus far, the new electric Porsche Macan has proven its capability in all of it.
For performance enthusiasts and fans of Porsche’s sports car ethos, the best news is this: the maximum power output of the electric motors is over 611 horsepower, with 737 lb/ft of torque, and for the first time ever, it will feature 5 degrees of rear-axle steering. With rear-biased all-wheel drive, the upcoming electric Porsche Macan promises to preserve Porsche’s performance character while embracing the electric future, and with the full reveal coming soon, the results will surely be exciting.
