While some view cars as just another average mode of transportation, others see them as memories.
For passionate car collectors and enthusiasts, its the story or memory attatched to a car that adds an extra layer of significance. Porsche tends to attract this more than any other, with stories of Speedsters and 911s being the gateway into a lifelong love for all thing automotive. Its a story shared by Porsche lover and Astronaut Dr. Anna Lee Fisher, who first became introduced to the brand by her German uncle and countless drives in his Porsche. Anna went on to study a profession in the medical field where she celebrated her success by purchasing a 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo finished in Garnet Red.
Parting ways with her 911 and starting her journey as an astronaut in 1979, Dr. Fisher was accepted into NASA’s training program as part of the first group of women ever. Mission STS-51A launched from the historic pad 39A on November 8, 1984, embarking on a seven-day, three-million-mile journey to retrieve two satellites, during which Dr. Fisher became the fourth American woman and the first mother in space, spending 192 hours beyond Earth.
Now 40 years later, on the date of when she first realized her dream of space travel, Porsche captured the moment when Dr. Anna Lee Fisher was reunited with the 911 Turbo as part of a new short film. Joyriding a blue over red leather 992 911 Turbo up and down the closed airstrip, all that Dr. Fisher could say was, “I want it.” Dr. Fisher later contributed to the development of the International Space Station and the Orion program. Although she retired from NASA in 2017, her passion for space and speed hasn’t faded. “I’ve collected quite a lot of speeding tickets,” she admits. “You’d think they’d understand.” View all Porshe 911 Turbos for sale on duPont REGISTRY by clicking the link below.
