Porsche Celebrates The 911’s 60th Anniversary With A Thrilling New Video

Most deliveries are about the destination. With Porsche, the journey is more important.

This year, the legendary Porsche is celebrating its 75th anniversary as a sports car manufacturer, and in that time, Porsche has shaped the world of performance, luxury, and engineering, and has become a symbol of achievement, aspiration, and excellence in the automotive world. However, its 75th anniversary isn’t the only impotant anniversary that Porsche is celebrating: the Porsche 911 is also celebrating its 60th.

Introduced in 1963, the Porsche 911 remains one of the most important facets of Porsche’s legacy, with a sports car allure that has only grown stronger in the six decades of its existence, and with the introduction of the new off-road ready Porsche 911 Dakar, it takes on an entirely new persona, paying homage to legendary rallying Porsche 911s.

To celebrate the 911 Dakar and the 60th anniversary of the legendary sports car, Porsche brought two racing drivers: Mark Webber and Stéphane Ortelli to the outback of Australia to show off the Dakar’s off-road prowess in a fun and creative way. Webber picks up Ortelli in the 911 Dakar, with a mission to race against the clock in delivering a box.

The off-road supercar’s various driving modes help seamlessly take it from desert driving to open roads, and then to the racetrack, where another Porsche 911 takes the limelight: the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS. One of the most racing-focused 911s yet, the GT3 RS features incredibly advanced aerodynamics, ruthlessly lightweight construction, and an immense 517 horsepower to deliver the ultimate track experience.

Once they finally reach their destination, they open the box to reveal that what was a 60th anniversary cake was destroyed by the intense drive there, which was still worth every minute. Showing off the dynamism and range of the Porsche 911, Porsche shows off that 60 years has resulted in something truly great.
