Porsche’s Le Mans legend takes to the Alps.
Since opening F.A.T. Mankei this past spring, Ferdinand Porsche has given Porsche enthusiasts, and in fact car enthusiasts as a whole, a hub and home in Austria’s Grossglockner High Alpine Road, one of the world’s most historic, scenic, and engaging driving roads. An event featuring a wide range of Porsche’s legendary performance cars rung in the opening of the Coffee Shop, but it’s now showing the results of its dedication to car enthusiasts in an epic series of photos recently shared on Instagram by Porsche and the Porsche Museum.
Captured by photographer Mark Riccioni, two Porsche 911 GT1 cars took to the winding stretch. The car was known for its Le Mans domination during the legendary late 1990s GT1 racing era. Both examples of the 90s racing beast soaked up the stunning vistas of the Austrian Alps, while showing off their driving prowess that continues to shine through decades.
In a combination of 90s nostalgia, racing passion, and natural beauty, these new photos capture the wonder of the alpine roads and the Porsche 911 GT1 alike. It’s not often that two cars with the same pedigree as the Porsche 911 GT1 come together, let alone two of the same legendary GT1 racer, and in a location as idyllic as F.A.T. Mankei. With this beautiful racing reunion, Porsche shows fans worldwide what gives the historic manufacturer so much allure.
