Porsche Reveals A New Historically-Inspired Livery For Le Mans

Having begun in 1923, the 24 Hours of Le Mans is celebrating its 100th anniversary very soon. However, throughout the automotive world, 2023 is an important year, as just for Porsche alone, the brand is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and its unmistakably legendary 911 sports car is celebrating its 60th anniversary. As a result, Porsche’s presence at Le Mans will be a big one, with a very special livery decorating its 963 LMDh hybrid race car for the event.

The design features 15 stripes in a total of 7 different colors, starting narrow at the front and growing wider towards the back, eventually flaring out to take up the entire width of the car. With 3 cars on the track, Porsche has given the fin above the engine hood a different color on each: black for #5, white for #6, and red for #75. The seven colors honor Porsche’s long and storied Le Mans history. Orange is a reference to the legendary Gulf livery, pink honors the “Pig” 917 from 1971, green and blue pay homage to the 1970 “Hippie” 917, dark blue refers to the 80s Rothmans’ liveries, red echoes the first Stuttgart outright winner from 1970, and yellow pays tribute to the Porsche RS Spyder. Altogether, the finished livery on the Porsche 963 race car shows off Porsche’s many victories and iconic moments on the incredibly historic Le Mans stage, and the iconic brand looks forward to hopefully adding a new glorious chapter to that history soon.
