Modern classics join vintage icons at this event.
Luftgekühlt is one of the most anticipated and well-known events in the incredibly vast Porsche fandom, and it serves an important purpose: celebrating the excellence of Porsche’s long history of air-cooled engines, the cherished favorite of many Porsche purists. However, with over a quarter-century of water-cooled Porsche models in the books, the manufacturer also saw a need for the more modern water-cooled vehicles to be celebrated as well, and created Air|Water, which started in 2023 as an understudy held on the second day of Luftgekühlt at Mare Island in California.
However, this year, Air|Water has its own fully-fledged event, near Luftgekühlt 8’s venue, coming to the Orange County Fair & Event Centre in Costa Mesa, California. This time around, a total of 1,000 cars were displayed, including fan submissions and legendary Porsche creations. Icons of Porsche’s history and the manufacturer’s engineers were present among the huge crowd of fans who came to celebrate the entirety of Porsche’s 76-year history.
As a companion to Luftgekühlt, the event celebrated iconic moments in Porsche’s history, old and new, like the transaxle model, and the coveted supercars like the Carrera GT and Porsche 918 Spyder. With the incredible success of the Air|Water event alongside the legendary Luftgekühlt, Porsche now plans to make Air|Water its own annual event, warming fans up for Luftgekühlt events across the globe, which are going next to Wrocław, Poland in June and Copenhagen, Denmark in September. As special as air-cooled Porsches are, the more modern water-cooled history of Porsche deserves love too, and Air|Water’s success proves it.
