In an electrifying start to the season, the Porsche Penske Motorsport team has clinched a historic victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona. The huge win extends Porsche‘s record to an impressive 19 wins while also signaling its return to the top spot for the first time since 2003. The No. 7 Porsche 963, expertly driven by Felipe Nasr, Dane Cameron, Matt Campbell, and IndyCar sensation Josef Newgarden, showcased unmatched pace and endurance, crossing the finish line first place. The sister car, the No. 6 Porsche 963, secured a respectable fourth position. In a race that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, the Porsche 963s were in a relentless battle with the No. 31 Cadillac, swapping leads and delivering jaw-dropping moments.
Despite facing challenges and penalties, the team’s resilience and strategic plan proved to be the winning recipe. The final hours of the race were nothing short of cinematic, with the last of the caution phases ramping up the suspense. Celebrations and awards were in order, with team leaders and Porsche executives expressing their pride over its win at one of motorsport’s biggest stages. Each of the Porsche Penske Motorsport team drivers received a two-tone, gold Rolex Daytona Chronograph with a commemorative etching on the backcase that reads “Rolex 24 at Daytona Winner 2024.” Porsche’s victory at Daytona also marks a promising start to the IMSA season.
