A Formula 1 legend gets behind the wheel of Porsche’s pinnacle racer.
The 963 is Porsche’s latest top-class endurance racer, showcasing hybrid performance technology and its excellence on the world’s most respected and challenging racing stages. This year, it’s getting ready to take on what is the most legendary challenge in the racing world, and arguably the most difficult, as well: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As the team and the cars prepare for the race, Porsche has enlisted a racing legend outside the world of endurance racing to help.
That legend is none other than Sebastian Vettel, winner of an incredible 53 Formula 1 Grand Prix races, and a four-time Formula 1 World Champion. Now, he’s getting experience behind the wheel of a different but also incredibly impressive race car, a hypercar prototype. With lots of time spent practicing with a simulator, Vettel is now preparing for a 36-hour run at the circuit in Aragón, Spain.
Before that, he’s taking to Porsche’s own test track, at its R&D center in Weissach. With his help in preparing the car for the legendary race, Porsche hopes to leave this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans with yet another outright victory, and as the record holder, it would be the manufacturer’s 20th time winning the venerated race. 3 Porsche 963s from Porsche Penske Motorsport will be entering the race, with three cars coming from customer teams as well. Meanwhile, the LMGT3 category will be entered with two Porsche 911 GT3 R cars, all hoping to bring another victory to Porsche’s trophy cabinet.
