Winnats Pass is a limestone gorge in Derbyshire, in the English Peak District; a single-track road cut between near-vertical walls, formed by a collapsed cave system. It is one of the few places in England where the landscape genuinely dwarfs a car, and Wallace has used the scale rather than fought it: the DB5 sits still, low in the frame, and the gorge does the rest.

The car needs less introduction in America than the road does. Launched in September 1963 as a development of the final DB4 series, bodied by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera in Milan, the DB5 became the most recognisable car in cinema less than a year later when it appeared in Goldfinger. What is easy to forget behind the ejector seat is that it was a serious grand tourer on its own terms: an all-aluminium 3,995cc straight-six on triple SU carburettors, 282 bhp, a ZF five-speed gearbox, and 145 mph at a time when almost nothing on an American road would see 120.

Provenance and edition

One hundred pieces of this Bond car wall art will be produced. That figure covers every size and material combined - not one hundred per format. When the edition closes it is retired and never reprinted.

Each piece ships with a certificate of authenticity giving the edition number, the title, and the exact dimensions and format supplied, hand-signed by both the artist and the Limited100 curator. A brushed aluminium decal is fixed to the reverse.

About the artist

Tim Wallace works internationally for manufacturers and agencies from a base in England. He was named Commercial Photographer of the Year at the 2021 British Photography Awards for work with McLaren, and has previously taken Car Photographer of the Year at the UK Motor Industry Awards.
